Kinja'd!!!

I believe that life matters. I believe that even before you’re born, your life matters. I believe that regardless of who you love, your life matters. I believe that regardless of who you vote for, your life matters. I believe that regardless where you’re from, your life matters.

I also believe that in today’s world, people don’t think that life matters. In a digital, mile a minute world, we’ve began seeing each other and ourselves as expendable, and that is the key to most of our problems. Today, reach out to a fellow human, and don’t think about their orientation, their race, or their political affiliations. When we once again start seeing each other as humans, we will once again begin appreciating the value of life and begin to search for the right thing to do for all of us.

on a less serious note, BMW needs to stop making bland boats and put that ‘02 concept into production!!

On a more serious note, I strongly believe in a woman’s right to choose. Who are you as a man to tell them what to do with their body? And why post that on international womens day?

Also what happened to putting politics after the jump?

It’s not politics. That’s the kind of thing I wish to overcome with this kind of thinking. We need to overcome our differences. What part of “life is sacred, everyone matters” pissed you off?

The “Before you are born” part reeks of anti-abortion movement. That was what triggered me off initially. I then re-read you post and noticed that it wasn’t a prominent part of your post and you probably may have had a different intention, or not.

I am all in with all lives matter, as long as we are talking actual people, not some nondescript lumps of cells. All people are equal independent of origin, complexion, unibrow, colander on head, shaved or non-shaved parts, BMW, Chevy truck or Kia, or whatever...

So we are on the same page in that regard?

We are at an intersection here. We could start an argument about many things we seem to have different opinions on.... Or we could just focus on the common ground. I choose to do the latter.

I couldn’t agree with you any more than I do. Although I am a teenage Latino Catholic conservative Republican, I see everyone equally. A few of my very best friends are rather liberal Democrats, yet we see past our political affiliations. I voted for Trump when they voted for Clinton, yet we look past that. I’ve had friends in the past who were lesbians, yet I didn’t treat them differently because of their sexual orientation. Although I don’t fully agree with it personally, who am I to shun them and be hateful and vindictive for who they are. As a teenage Colombian immigrant, I have experienced enough racism in my lifetime. It isn’t fun. I look past peoples’ ethnicities, races, and nationalities. If they’re being racist or hateful towards me because of my race or nationality, that’s where I draw the line. Although they may not like cars, we get along because we see and appreciate who we all are as people. I get along with almost everyone I meet. I always try to be a kind, compassionate, caring person. I never bring politics, culture, or race into how I treat people and how I view them. If the other person chooses to do so, I respect their decision. Sure, my friends and I disagree on almost everything, yet we all see past our respective opinions to remain best friends at the end of the day.

We don’t want to argue. You’ve presented some interesting theories here, and I just want to pick your brain to see how developed they are.

Who judges whether or not something is heinous enough so as to make a life un-sacred? Also, what if it is in something’s nature to do heinous things to other forms of life? Are rattlesnakes not sacred? The oldest forms of life on earth can do some heinous things to other living things.

You don’t believe that people have an internal limit to know when things are right or wrong? Except for a few who have their wires crossed, children are not malicious. They have to be taught bad habits.

When rattlesnakes kill or maim, they don’t do it with any ill will. They do it out of protection, fear, or in hunting. We as humans are, or at least should be, more evolved. We should be able to work out our issues as to not inflict those issues on each other. However, as said in my original post, I think it’s a lack or respect for life that keeps us lashing out moreso now than ever before.

I think what people view as right or wrong can sometimes be shaped by their society. As an example, it is universally seen as wrong to murder someone. However, society still allows its fellow citizens to wage war on others without chastising or punishing those who do the killing.

But that’s not what I was getting at.

You proposed the idea that all life is sacred, but then said all life isn’t sacred, and proposed the idea that certain forms of life can make themselves “un-sacred” by doing certain things. I wanted to explore this idea, and see what sort of actions causes a life to not be sacred anymore. I’m not trying to argue with you. I find this idea that actions can make life “un-sacred” interesting coming from a Christian, since Jesus preached forgiveness of all sins, regardless of how heinous they are. I mean, that’s like the whole point of the New Testament.

I felt it was much better than voting for Clinton. I really dislike her. As did almost every Colombian and Latino I know. I’m all for a stricter immigration policy. My family and I moved here over 15 years ago. We went through the entire citizenship process. We did it. We’ve been citizens for more than 5 years now. If people want to move here and live here legally, they should go through the process. I’ve heard so many people say “your legal status shouldn’t be defined by a stupid little piece of paper.” Try saying that to the millions of legal immigrants who endured the strenuous process. It took us over 10 years to get our citizenship from the moment we stepped foot in this country. If people are all for equality and fair treatment of immigrants, why would you belittle the struggle legal immigrants go through to become citizens of what is undoubtedly the greatest country on Earth? We didn’t come here to pay for illegal immigrants. Sure, we feel sorry for them, but we’re here to move forward and move up in the world. It’s a land of opportunity.

I’m a conservative Republican. I wanted to see a conservative justice replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. I don’t want to see this country move farther to the left. Balance is always important. It isn’t too good to have the country lean too far in either direction.

I’m very much against what the Democrats proposed and wanted during the past election. Trump wasn’t my first choice by far, but I’d have him over Clinton every day of the week. I personally supported Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush, but they didn’t make it to the election itself.

Forgiveness and punishment aren’t mutually exclusive. Forgiveness is meant for the party that was wronged, and punishment is for the party that did the wrong-doing. Ultimately punishment should be meant to rehabilitate somebody, or even just evaluate if someone can be rehabilitated. Forgiveness lives in the heart of those who are wronged and that has to be that person’s journey. To think that the ideas are mutually exclusive is a way over-simplified view of the concepts.

Forgiveness and punishment are not what I was talking about. The sanctity of life is what we were discussing, but I see we’re getting nowhere with this. It’s pretty clear you haven’t really thought critically about the things you’re writing about.

Okay. Well when you’re ready to approach a discussion with an open mind, let me know. This is not the first thread of mine that you’ve come into with thinly-veiled insults and grilling tactics under the guise of “fostering discussion”. If you really feel this way about me, do me a favor and don’t come into any of my discussions in the future.

I never insulted you. I asked you the same question three times, and each time you answered something else. It’s pretty clear you’re either unable or unwilling to share your thoughts on a question over a topic you brought up, so now the discussion is over. It’s becoming increasingly acceptable in our society for people to just say things without actually thinking about them. I just wanted to see if that’s what was going on with your post. Now I know. If I had a closed mind I wouldn’t have bothered asking you what you thought about what you wrote. No hard feelings.
