They do? My mother has one (not pink) which has survived ten years thus far with no problems except the boot release (they all go). Mind you she doesn’t drive far.

I’ve encountered a few with stretched chains yeah. A neighbour tried to sell me theirs for scrap value a year ago for that reason. I didn’t take them up on the offer... Not sure if its a common issue or I’ve just seen a disproportionate amount of them.
