Kinja'd!!!

A $4900 1989 SHO 5 speed with 67K on the clock! This thing is mint. Well, nearly mint. Especially compared to how most of these Taureses look now. In this condition it’s a total anachronism on today’s roads.

I bet that V6 would be *perfect* for chasing down the baddies.

Having owned a ‘93 SHO 5-speed, they’re fantastic cars to drive when they’re working right.

The problem is that parts for the Yamaha V6 are getting harder and harder to find. Unique engine to the car means Ford no longer makes them, nor do the suppliers for Ford. Half the stuff Autozone claims fit the car, doesn’t.

What an awesome find! Worth every damn penny

Reliability aside, I bet these were seriously quick back in the day! That V6 had amazing power density for it’s time

Anybody else think this would be a great 1st car? Semi sporty with a unique engine, and they seem to run forever.

This is a perfect example of the “100 car garage” vehicle - worth every penny if you have the space but otherwise hard to justify. That said though if someone with no soul put this thing in a bubble for 20 years instead of driving it, they could stand to make a little $$$

These cars absolutely love to rev. With an accessory underdrive kit and higher output oil pump, the engine has no problem turning 9,000rpm on stock internals.

Definitely, minus the reliability piece! 220 horsepower in a 3200 lb car was fast back in the day

9k? That’s NUTS. I read it was 7 from the factory so that’s really impressive. The power density is incredible for the time

Factory rev limiter was set at 7200rpm.

There was a similar condition second gen for sale here last year for like $2k. I was severely tempted to blow my tax return on it.

Especially in a sedan. It was like, “How DARE a family car be that fast”

oh yeah for 2k?! It’d have to happen. You can’t even find a nice civic for half of that

Back about 14 years ago I bought a light titanium 89 (with the half and half interior) on eBay drunk one night. Joined SHOForum. When the transmission ground itself to metal shavings the day I bought it, I figured SHOwnership may not have been in the cards. Kept trying to find a decent car to receive the Yamahammer but it seemed that every SHO I found had a busted transmission.

Eventually, I just put the title in the glove box and offered it to any Forum member who wanted to come tow it away.

EPIC fail haha. I hope it wasn’t sitting there for too long. Obscure hot versions of economy cars are so interesting but I feel like they will all vanish because of stories like that one. Just not worth it when rare things break

I would occasionally start it up to circulate fluids and let it rev. It sounded glorious.

Looks exactly like the one I bought back in 2000. It went through transmissions faster than it went through tires but I would buy another in a heartbeat. Man what a fun car. One of ther best sounding V6's. Still the coolest looking intake manifold ever made.
