Kinja'd!!!

BREMBOs, TRACK DAY BRO. In reality my brakes are getting sketchy and I wanted some quality stuff that would last, plus some extra stopping power will be nice when I’m on the nurburgring in a couple weeks.

So much stopping power bro.

Need to paint my calipers red bro. It’ll look totally sweet bro.

Brah, you have to paint the rotors too.

Totally dude, can’t have the discs and calipers not matching.

Bro-tip: real racers give the rotors and calipers a nice coating of grease so the calipers don’t scratch the rotor’s paint.

Shit yeah, 6 speed holes drilled around the middle.

I’ve heard soaking the pads in petrol helps too.

Damn, I’m sure you’ve got an edge on me now in the braking zones. I’ve got more downforce though, so I should be able to keep more speed through the corners, haha.

Yeah but your down force is on the rear and its FWD. I’m going to put a giant front wing like Chris Rados TC on. Then I’ll chop everyone with my 60 mighty horsepowers.

Hahaha, you don’t need all that grip, just adding the front wing would only make you understeer more.

I’m not saying my flimsy wing does anything useful, but the Twingo’s nose heavy design benefits from having some rear downforce. Adding rear downforce would increase the rear wheel load, thus causing the side forces the front and rear tires can develop to be closer together, which should give it a bit less understeer. Or at least that’s what I’ve been taught.

I dont know if you’ve found the same but the Twingo actually oversteers when you pass the limit in certain situations. I can feel it rotating on long sweeping corners.

It’d be interesting to check out a study on braking performance changes when you only replace the pads.

Im changing the discs too this time (the discs are in terrible condition) but I have replaced pads only on some cars. They take longer to bed in but when they do they seem completely fine.

ah sorry I wasn’t specific enough - I’m wondering if a pad compound change would be noticeable during daily driving, a little extra stopping power sounds nice.

I would imagine it would. The compound is definitely different on these brembo pads vs the OEM pads. The BREMBOs are noticeably softer. I’ll update on how that changes things when I fit them on Saturday.

Yep, on long sweepers it wants to rotate, I’ve felt that too a couple of times. But in thight corners I’ve found it to slightly understeer.

Overall I find it to be pretty neutral, which I find quite an achievement for a cheap city car without any fancy suspension tricks, or a perfect weight distribution.

lots of people swap pads for on/off track i’m sure it’d help as long as they’re the right ones

Adding down force at the front (e.g. more front wing) will increase traction at the front. Increased traction will decrease understeer. In other words, more wing gets you more grip and less tendency to break traction at the same corner speed.

If you add downforce to the rear of a car, the rear wheels will get more traction. consequently they will have less tendency to break traction. Adding downforce to the rear of the car will change the front/rear traction balace toward the rear.

If the car in question already tended to understeer, adding traction to the rear will not help alleviate understeel. It may acutally get worse.

Yeah its easy to stop understeer with a touch of the brakes or some throttle adjustment. I still want to try an RS or even a GT. This chassis must be great with a bit of power.

You’re right, I got it the wrong way around. Guess I typed it a bit too enthusiastically without propperly thinking it through..

I have 75 hp, I can confirm, it gets better with more power ;-P

I agree, I want to try them too. I’ve heard both are great to drive, which is probably why the amount of GTs at my university has tripled from 1 to 3.

Shots fired. But yeah I think the GT is popular partly because a tune for more boost can add around 20hp, or so I’m told.

Kinja'd!!! "BvdV - The Dutch Engineer" (dutchengineer)
03/08/2017 at 15:49, STARS: 0

Yeah, a tuned GT should even be able to outrun an RS from a standstill, due to it having its peak torque lower in the rpm range. I think stock GT vs RS would even be close from a standstill, since the GT has 145 Nm at 3000 rpm, and the RS has 160 Nm at 4400 rpm.

No worries. Looking at my post could cause confusion with that “understeel” stuff. You don’t want too much understeel, you could lose control.
