People? You give too much credit.

In these days of hyperbole and exaggerated empty platitudes, especially from the tweeter in chief, this makes sense.

It’s almost comical, it has a slight hint of an Austin Powers movie. I can imagine it’s not as funny when you live there though.

I am against how the affordable care act works. It raises costs significantly for the average person in order to make up for the people with pre-existing issues/etc. I think that kind of thing really should be a welfare situation and not left for other insurance payers to foot the bill for. I make possibly above average but for one child and myself between my employer and I we pay 1300 a month for insurance with a 2400 deductible. This is significantly more than years back. Also, you shouldn’t be kicked off insurance if you’ve been paying for years and then wind up getting something, insurance is a gamble and they can’t boot you because they lost.

However, I don’t see how getting rid of a mandate that forces all to pay into insurance is going to help my pricing. And, lol @World’s Greatest Healthcare Plan. What an embarrassment. :(

So if it’s a welfare situation, how does that cost you any less? Any reduction in insurance costs will be cancelled out by an increase in government spending (welfare), made up for with taxes. What the ACA did was change the cost from the government to the insurance companies. People who went to the ER for medical care and couldn’t pay their bill created a loss for the hospital, which equals a tax deduction, which needs to be made up for somewhere by you and me.

Because taxes are paid more evenly than insurance premiums. Not everyone is on health insurance. It’s also better for the government to handle welfare than force a private insurance company to do it. Doing so hides the cost.

Yup. When you live here, it’s actually really scary. I’m a suburban white dude and I’m worried that our government is going to be dismantled by these goons.

I honestly can’t wrap my head around how scared some other people must be... Women, immigrants, migrants, people of color, muslims, any group on the prez’s naughty list should rightly be worried.

understood. But the people who do not/will not carry their own health insurance statistically cost everyone more. I understand both sides of the argument. Buying insurance is technically a gamble, insurance companies are not in business to lose money - they know that statistically most people will pay more for insurance than they will pay out in services rendered, so theoretically I should be able to do better than average by not carrying insurance. Until something major happens that will completely bankrupt me and my family. That’s why people need to carry insurance.

When I was just out of college and working part time I paid for ‘major incident’ coverage - I had insurance to cover one major incident only. It was cheap and I was responsible to keep myself healthy. If I went skiing and broke a leg, I had insurance to cover it, but I would be dropped by the insurance company after making the claim and would need to find a new policy/carrier. I think this kind of minimum ‘major incident’ coverage is what should be ‘required’ by all to have. Individuals should not be required to carry ‘good health’ insurance covering doctors visits and prescriptions - people should be incentivized to keep themselves healthy. But being completely uninsured is not fair to everyone else who has to pick up the tab.
