Kinja'd!!!

Since it has to do with the USCG, here’s a lovely picture of USCG National Security Cutter BERTHOLF (WMSL-750).

In order to fund his Wall™, the president is considering cuts to the budgets of the Coast Guard, TSA, and FEMA, among others, agencies that actually do something to protect the country (though we can have a discussion about the efficacy of the TSA some other time).

Here are some highlights of the budget proposal:

Cut the USCG budget by 14%, from $9.1B to $7.8B, including the cancellation of a 9th national security cutter

Cut TSA by 11% to $4.5B

Cut FEMA by 11% to $3.6B

Raise the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) budget to $43.8B, which includes nearly $3B for the Wall™, and nearly $2B for “immigration detention beds.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, would see a 36% increase to nearly $8B, which will help fund 1,000 new officers and support staff, though finding qualified applicants is proving difficult

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would rise 27% to just over $14B, including the hiring of 1,200 new CBP officers, though finding qualified applicants is proving difficult

Eliminate funding for the armed pilot program

Eliminate $45M in grants to local law enforcement to cover the cost of increased patrols at airports

I suppose in some absurd parallel universe, all this makes sense. Obviously, it’s all about priorities. And if you’re wondering exactly what a National Security Cutter is, here’s an explanation.

Oh the arctic? Don’t look over there...look at my wall instead. I said I would do it and I will and there is nothing my friend vlad is doing up north and you shouldn’t worry about it. Also people only come in through the Mexican border, we all know this.

I wouldn’t necessarily mind seeing the TSA cut back, but I wouldn’t want it to be doing just the same job on less money. That would just make life for us travelers harder. I’d like to see its mandate scaled back because I don’t think the way it’s working now keeps us much safer than we were before 9/11 (though I should look up hard numbers before I write that). It’s just spending our money.

I worked as a civilian for the CG for four years, so I’m a bit biased, but the CG is already cut to the bone. There are people out busting their ass to serve America on boats that would make our project cars think “gee maybe it’s time to turn that leaky, broken, unsafe piece of garbage into new Kias.”

Why not cut funding to the NSA. He’s already letting everyone know everything on twitter. Why cut money from the Coast Guard. They actually do there jobs well. Get rid of the healthcare for congressman.

Good move, cut the funds to the service that runs significant drug interdiction and anti-immigration patrols after spending your entire campaign bitching about drugs and immigrants. I’m sure ol’ Enrique will pick up the tab to maintain our services.

I like that last idea particularly. What good can come of decisions made about healthcare by a bunch of people who can easily afford it?

And while your cutting the NSA, go ahead and defund the State Department. Seriously, has Rex Tillerson done anything at all since he was sworn in? Right now, Foggy Bottom is sitting on their hands doing nothing .

Actually, they do. Maybe this is why Republicans are so upset about Obamacare, because they are being forced to use it.

But starting Jan. 1, 2014, House and Senate members, and their staffs, can only obtain employer-subsidized, private coverage through the exchanges established under the ACA. The exchanges, or marketplaces, were designed for those who purchase their own insurance and small employers. For a full discussion of current health insurance options for members of Congress, see the 2015 Congressional Research Service paper “ Health Benefits for Members of Congress and Designated Congressional Staff .” Over the years, we’ve seen false claims that Congress was somehow “exempt” from the health care law. But, in fact, the law places this additional requirement on Congress that doesn’t pertain to other Americans with employer-provided health care.)

Around Chicago a lot of the roofers are Polish (Chicago has the highest Polish population outside of Warsaw) ... so clearly we also need to put a wall around Poland. That’s how that works, right? I mean, they’re taking all the jobs away from all the ‘Muricans who are clamoring to bust their ass and back on top of roofs all damn day no matter how hot or cold it is outside.

I didn’t either. And now that I do, it starts making a whole lot more sense why Republicans think it’s a disaster. Because it limits THEIR choices. Nothing worse than a law that actually affects Congress.

Congress likes the whole does as we say not as we act standard. Until they are made to do what they say. They should decrease their pay, and make what the average 22 year old makes in Iowa. Let’s see how quick things are changed.

Eliminate $45M in grants to local law enforcement to cover the cost of increased patrols at airports

How are airports going to be great again with fewer security, meaning longer lines? With his private jet and now AF1, I wonder when was the last time he walked through a terminal or flew commercial.

It’s been a while, to be sure. I think this money is used to simply have more cops on the ground. You know, the good guys with guns who are there to respond when a bad guy with a gun starts shooting. The $45M is likely used to pay OT to the extra officers so the city doesn’t have to. But yeah, let’s take away the visible, uniformed, armed security. Great idea.
