See, this is tough to me because the market will kind of dictate what should die. If people want to buy a Chrysler 200, who am I to stop them? They’re just going to have to buy something else in three years anyway when it falls apart.

Vehicles that I feel don’t have a purpose, or I just don’t like?

Sorry, but no. I’ve always hated them, but yesterday I was trapped behind an elderly man in an Encore who was doing 40 in the left lane on a 50 MPH road. When I finally passed him on the right (which was not easy, since that thing so so f-ing tall that I couldn’t see if anything was in the lane), he started furiously flashing his highs. He sealed the Encore’s fate.

I honestly have no clue why I like them. They’re a POS Trax, but with more leather and taking more of your money. The only thing I can come up with is SOOOOO CUUUUTE, and looks aren’t usually enough for me to seal or unseal the fate of a vehicle. But I do.

I can see what you mean about cuteness, but I can’t help but feel that they’re everything evil and wrong about cars. They’re cars for people who want compact cars, but who also demand a “commanding ride height.” At least SUVs tend to just be generally big all around. Encores and Traxeses are so disproportionately tall that they’ve basically a big middle finger to every sedan and coupe on the road. They’re a dystopian solution to the problem that everyone keeps wanting taller and taller cars so they can see over everyone else’s taller and taller cars.

I love the looks of the 6 GC. One of the few cars where I would take the 4 door over the 2 door version. I agree that the names are silly, though.

To be fair, it’s really the Americanization of the way kei cars have been going for years now.

Most of the popular kei cars are ludicrously tall, but narrow and short wheelbase (yet with zero overhangs), just like the Trax/Encore twins. Styling is totally different, obviously, but... And, there’s a different reason for the form factor, the added height and upright seating position of a tall kei is to enable room for four adults and cargo within the crazy small kei limits.

(However, keis can pull off the look more charmingly, at least.)
