“A friend” is looking for a good parts source to restore a 70's Karmann Ghia. What’s a good place to get body panels, maybe a good service/assembly book about them?

I bought panels from Mid America Motorworks before.

Hmmm. That’s where a good shop manual/body manual for them would come in handy. Thanks for the tip.

Parts Place Inc. in Detroit metro area is a VW specific place that’s been around a long time. They are more for keeping your VW going (manuals, tools, mechanical, electrical, brakes, cooling system, some interior parts) though.

They do have body parts (hoods, fenders, doors, sometimes full floor pans), though not for Ghias I don’t think.

Oh I forgot to add, it’s worth it to give them (Parts Place Inc.) a call, b/c they are more of an old school “come visit us in person or at least call us” type of place

Especially for larger body parts & floor pans as I know they used to have quite a few available NOS & from manufacturers for a Lot of models. I know they used to include listings for these parts in their paper catalogs, but I haven’t seen them in a while, as they send out more targeted model / type specific paper catalogs instead of sending “everything they have” style paper catalogs like they used to send out.

Good advice regardless is to call & talk to each source & if they don’t have what you’re looking for... Ask “Anyone else I should talk with that you think might have XYZ part?”

Also, its worth looking on “PelicanParts.com” to see what they have & check the forums there too!
