There are still non-robot animals running around. You actually have to hunt them to upgrade your ammo and health carrying packs. Later on in the game, you can learn a skill that lets you hack some of the robots to make them attack each other or modify their behavior so they’d let you mount them.
You actually do get to wear a metal suit if you complete the quest for it, but that’s mid-end game stuff.

Why is she killing all the robot dinosaurs? I’ve watched bits and pieces, but it’s not like they seem particularly aggressive, at least until you shoot them with a fire arrow, which seems reasonable.

The robots encroach on human settlements and wreck our shit. Even within the settlement spaces they are still there as an ever-present threat, and nearly all of them are immediately hostile towards humans regardless of context.
The humans have to hunt them otherwise we get overrun. They don’t want peace, so they can take this fire arrow up the robo-asshole instead.

Hacked the robot so she can ride it, hunt other robots because they move in on human settlements and kill people, uses a bow that shoots fire, electricty or armor piercing rounds that can be a one-hit-kill to some enemies.

No. They have only primitive technology slightly enhanced by whatever they scavenge from the robot kills. Even if you don’t know how a robot works, you can still swap metal for wood, high strength tensile steel wire for cloth, steel arrowheads instead of stone, etc., to make your bow/arrow way better. Being able to improve a primitive weapon with better materials though is far removed from knowing what steel is and how to make it. If you can’t smelt steel, you definitely can’t make a rail gun.

Nah. All the hacking is done via a device you get later. From her perspective, what exactly it means to hack a machine is not known since she just pushes a button. There are many people who cannot tell you what a logic gate is or the lithography process, but they can still push a button on an iPhone.
