it really is about time. If for any reason, just walking to class and back. I can’t protect myself in a space that it is perfectly legal to carry because I’m going to a place where it is not. On top of that, I know probably a dozen kids who have or have had weapons off campus. The amount of college kids is much higher then you would think but there are still very few shootings. All of those have taken place in a “Gun Free Zone” zone though. The sign didn’t stop them. The biggest problem though, is how easy of a target college kids are for robberies. Walk home late at night with a backpack with a computer, $100-$1000 textbooks, phone, wallet, car keys... this just needs to happen soon. I should legally be able to protect myself in the legal fashion I deem necessary.
Side note: Do I have my Carry Permit? Not yet. I do have 4 vet friends who are all in college and four college age friends who are licensed. If you have time to get licensed in college, you’re plenty responsible.

AFAIK Utah is the only state that allows carry on college campus and somehow there haven’t been any bloodbaths there.
The thing with carry and carry permits is that even if it’s offered a lot of people just don’t bother. Why? Because it’s a massive hassle. You end up dressing for your gun, which is especially true in the warm climes.

I don’t feel the need to carry everywhere... I live in a town that has had two murders in the last 5 years I believe. Do I think I need to carry everywhere there? No. Carrying in a place where I and my peers are easy targets is a much different story.

I’ve had a CCW for almost a decade. Obtaining a CCW in no way indicates you’re responsible. It also doesn’t mean you can shoot for shit. If someone already has a jump on you, you’re best bet is to just give them what they want. Trying to pull a gun on someone who already has a gun out is a good way to get shot. I trust myself with a firearm, but I definitely don’t trust other people with one. During an active shooter situation, I’d hate to be in a room with a bunch of wannabe Rambos thinking they’re going to save the day. I’ve had friends both murdered and kill people in self defense, so I’m not just talking out my ass.

Can’t say I’m a fan. Adding guns to a high stress environment like a college campus doesn’t seem like a good plan to me. I saw way to many frat boys (often drunk) do stupid things on campus to want to add firearms to the mix.

Not only because if someone thinks carrying makes them safer, then they’re obviously bad at risk assessment.. (and if you’re bad at risk assessment, why should you be allowed to carry a gun around the rest of us??)

I forget the court case but there is legal precedent that states the police has no obligation to protect you.
I’ve never been to TN, however I’m from the Southwest. We have basically only two seasons and neither are cold. As such the only real concealed carry option for those identifying themselves as a man have are IWB. That means you are restricted to things with belts. I prefer basketball shorts when not at work, so I have to change pants in order to carry.

The conclusion drawn that speech was suppressed because of regressive mysogynist gun owners isn’t accurate. There was no proof the writer of the threat was a gun owner or even a student. The police deemed the threat wasn’t credible and erred on the side of not restricting the rights of people.
