It’s pretty, no doubt, and obviously a lot of impressive work, but can you even drive the thing around with any practicality?

It’s doomed to be a show piece, no? I would want to take the thing to dinner.

Nope. It rings false. It’s daring where it makes no sense to be, and dull where it should be daring. Uncanny valley. The constant dickery with the size to try to come up with good proportions has left it with an odd hood and a grill that simply doesn’t fit right, which is not quite compensated for by the fender swell because there’s too much fender. It’s light where it should be heavy, heavy where it should be light, the concessions to modernity like the front suspension are executed in ways that are disconcerting (like negative camber at the front wheels when parked, WHAT THE FLYING FUCK).

It doesn’t have the right things wrong with it. If this had been executed back in the day, it would have been customized by someone with the ego to make the right kind of mistakes, and not slave over polishing out every possible *edge*. It’s trying much too hard to split the baby between Art Deco excess and Hi-boy - why are the door hinges exposed and where the FUCK is the chrome? Why are the fenders so featureless, the hood reliefs so unimaginative?

Why, in short, would you make it look like a coachbuilt vehicle that wasn’t recognizable as the work of its coachbuilder? Why is it a vehicle of excess informed by traditions of poverty?

It’s close, but it’s just not right. And yeah, doomed to be a showpiece.

Speaking very generally, some of these type are the ones that take pride in the fact that their cars will, always and forever, have zero miles on them.

So what if it’s for show only. Look at it. Tell me that the people involved in building this aren’t some of the most skilled artisans around today.

Why can we not just appreciate the art and beauty in this creation and respect the wishes of the person(s) who payed for it.

If you have the money to commission such a build I’m damn sure they have a stable full of other cars to thrash around in.

I know who owns the car (not personally) and he does have a full stable of cars.

I like art, (I certainly like what they’ve created here) but I like cars, too. If it was both, it would be even better.

With no bumps, dips, driveways, or potholes.

Although a few sparks could be fun.
