The official reason my GM gave me was that I had my feet on the desk and refused to help a customer. The first time he told it, the customer was a woman, and the second time, after I assured him that that never happened, she was now some guy, so either the customer transitioned right then and there on the showroom floor, or that story is bullshit and just an excuse. The boss told me that people don’t lie to him and fired me. Well I have a terrible poker face and said “that’s okay.” He asked me why I seemed relived, I said I’m not, he pointed out that I was smiling and said “oh sorry.” He wished me luck and shook my hand, I wished him luck right back. My direct supervisor got visibly shaken when I was fired, and followed me out and asked me why I was so adamant that that hadn’t happened, and I told him because it hadn’t and every single part of that story was made up. He offered to go in and try to change the GM’s mind, but I told him that it was quite alright, I always land on my feet. He told me if I ever need a reference he’d be more than happy to supply one.
