What is the freaking point? Is this some kind of juggalo cultural thing where you are too freaking lazy to type zeroes? NOONE THINKS YOU WANT ONLY $1 FOR YOUR CAR!

I don’t mind those because they’re easy to filter out. What drives me nuts are the dealers who put the down payment amount or payment amount as the price (filter by owner only, easy enough to dodge), or people who put some random amount other than $1 as the price. Ultimately I just wind up setting like $300 as a floor and call it a day, helps get rid of most of that bologna.

Is it true that Craigslist requires a dollar amount, even if you don’t have a set price, and want potential buyers to make an offer?

I remember someone saying that there was a valid reason like that or something.

It’s less obnoxious and baity, so not as bad, but I really hate this thing people on Craigslist have started doing now where they just list the first three digits of a six-digit odometer reading. Just seeing “Mileage: 170" makes me want to punch faces.

Legit classics for sale tend to omit the zeros too. You’ll see “1971 Mustang $18" and what they really mean is $18,000.

It’s so when you search for a car for under $500, their $29,500 2004 Camry shows up. Just like how I can go on ebay and find stuff like this listed as “Fits: Corvair”

Yeah, I see some ads without prices anywhere, not even in the description. If CL ever required the seller to enter a price, that must not be the case anymore.

So, as far as I’m concerned, $1 means $1, and they deserve all the trolling they get.

And this is why I put some arbitrary number in a search. Like I’ll search for cars between $31 and $1000. This eliminates all of that $1 garbage.

Worse is when you set a price limit above $1 to weed those out, and you get the tards asking “$35" for the car that they want $35,000 for.

I’ve seen lots of CL ads (cars and not) without set prices. When you search for a price range greater than zero they get filtered out as if they had their prices set to zero.

Setting it to $1 often means that the seller wants to collect bids. Anything higher means that the seller is too lazy to write out the entire value (e.g., $2 instead of $2000).

TBH, I’d never even thought about using Craigslist to auction an item.

But when I try to think about how that would work, I keep coming back to the fact that listing the item for $1 is still misleading.

Kinja'd!!! "Aremmes" (aremmes)

There was a kid on the local Honda classified facebook group who had 2 Del Sols to sell, he listed them for $4k and got roasted so bad I got sunburn just looking at it.

He eventually dropped the listing price to $3k, but it still was a “make one good car out of 2 cars” situation and $3k is still far too much for even one not-perfect Del Sol.
