From Geneva.... It’s Orange! Hopefully this means that the orange that went away with the last facelift is coming back to the USA. Interior looks to be a much nicer place to be and the orange stitching is a nice touch. Other than that it’s pretty much as-expected: Impreza hatch with a little extra lift and a little extra cladding. I love the latest iteration of the wheels. It keeps the same black center with polished outer theme going, but looks a lot more cohesive than the previous version.

Don’t even get me started. If they offered something even in the 180-200 hp range with a 6MT, I probably would’ve gotten a Crosstrek instead of my Forester, but I just couldn’t get over the lack of power. This new one does apparently eek out a whole 6 hp more... not enough to really matter much.

I still prefer the Impreza. My wife drives a ‘16 Impreza Limited hatch. Both of us dislike the lift and cladding on the Crosstrek, but if it sells, so be it.

That contrasting stitching all over the interior is just wrong on most colors. Hope they don’t just keep doing it in bright orange or red regardless of which exterior color you have.

The Impreza hatchback is a much better car overall (literally the exact same car, except better). The looks gap has actually grown with this new version. I cannot fathom how this atrocity outsells the hatch like 10:1 in the US. I straight up told a friend who’s currently looking for a tiny CUV that the Crosstrek is the exact same thing as an Impreza hatch except with a lift and plastic cladding and she would not believe me. She’s still convinced it’s a different car. I can’t take it!

I really dislike the ugly off-black plastic around the lower grille. They’re doing the same thing on the 2018 WRX/STi as well...

Hah I’ve noticed that on the current Crosstrek - looks like they carried it over.

Looks sweet. I really wanted a Crosstrek until I sat in one at the new car show this weekend. We’re now considering a used Legacy, Forester or Outback instead. I will say though that if I was single, I’d jump at that new body style in a heartbeat.

I like that at least they still offer both. A lot of manufactures seem to be going towards the lifted version only. I’ve seen the new hatch at the dealer. It has me really really hoping that the next WRX gets a hatch version. It seems like the cargo space has been improved a bit vs. the 2011-2016. Could be just my imagination and the newness of it though.

The ability of so many different manufacturers to sell the same car under different nameplates and get consumers to buy them makes me sad. You’re right, the Crosstrek should just been called an Impreza Outback Sport, because that’s what it is - but they did that and when the changed the name sales went up. SMH. Regardless, I’ve been a fan of the whimsy paint colors and wheels. And yes, the orange stitching will really only work on a few exterior colors. Definitely not with red.

I own both the Forester and Outback... if you’re considering those because the Crosstrek is tight and lower rent inside, then the Forester probably won’t sway you. The Outback/Legacy is significantly larger and more premium. Just try to get a ‘15 or newer if you don’t want to end up getting a short block replacement.

Lack of a WRX hatch continues to puzzle me. I always thought the WRX wagon/hatch were very popular. All Subaru needs to do is bring over the Levorg and people would be happy.

As a former owner of a Tangerine Orange Pearl Crosstrek I dig this new one. Color seems more vibrant than TOP ever was (although it could just be lighting). I’m undecided on the wheels. I kind of preferred the old ones, I think. I am a big fan of Subaru toning down the chrome accents though.

That said, I agree that it’s missing a key component. More oomph. That was one of the big reasons I traded mine in on a Civic. The Civic is no faster than the Crosstrek, but at least I pull down a good 8 mpg more than I did in the Crosstrek. Even if they just put the BRZ’s 200hp mill in there it would be enough.

Yeah yeah, same car, etc etc. I understand, but the additional ride height can be really really nice to have if you frequent trailheads that are along unpaved roads or if you live in an area that only plows highways- even then, only when its really, really snowing. Sloshing through 6-10" of schmoo is a much nicer with the extra clearance.

Oh yeah, I get that. And those people should go right ahead and get the Crosstrek and never look back. But why are at least half of buyers who’ve never been close to driving off a paved surface spending like 3k extra?? I’m speaking for the bay area here. Can’t stand how many Crosstreks there are. Anyways, this is pretty much the whole ‘car vs SUV’ argument (Q5 outsells A4 for no reason, etc), but the Crosstrek is the most blatant conversion, and one of the ones where the biggest proportion of buyers opt for the SUV version.

Because trendy.

Also Bay Area.

Even the FA20 from the BRZ with 200 hp would be a nice option if the 2.5 doesn’t fit. But yeah, lack of power is a big part of the reason I got the Forester over this. 19.3 vs. 21 lb/hp is noticeable, plus the extra speed in the manual gearbox helps as well.

Even the JDM 1.6 turbo would be a better option. Around the same hp, but more torque.

I like that orange, (though I like the last gen refresh “buzz saw” wheels better..) It should be successful.

Ugggh! I just want a 2.5 5 speed premium! But nooooo, you can’t have your options and your three pedals, too. Much less more power....

For all intents and purposes, the Forester is a Crosstrek with a 2.5 that can be had with a manual in premium trim. Hopefully they don’t walk that back in a year or two when the next Forester comes out on this platform.

Yes, it is, but it also has a big, beige body on it, and is also nearly indistinguishable from a Rav4. No, not the same thing.
