I think most friendships between straight men and straight women had one person who found the other person attractive. They might not anymore, but they probably did at first.
If you are with someone and you think they are attractive, chances are other people will find them attractive also and be friendly with them. People love to generalise. Women have to interact with men all the time at work and outside of the home.
But come on, if a single dude doesn’t ask about your family and goes straight to “Haven’t seen you in a while, want to have a cup of coffee?” then he clearly isn’t angling to play with your kids and dog. Guys can see through that instantly. The rest is a matter of how perceptive or interested the gal is.
