Kinja'd!!!

So my dad just bought a new Transit 150 for his company. Looks just like this one. Spent all weekend driving it because I was buying some furniture for my new house. It is so much better than the older E-250 vans we used to get. I’ve learned quite a bit about it. AMA !

better than the older E-250 vans

That’s like pole-vaulting a sidewalk crack though

It MANY baby’s.

And because it’s a panel van you can shove in even more.

I’m guessing that since you were moving furniture you haven’t gotten a chance to drift it.

which powertrain option?

Does it still have rollover warnings all over the visor, and does it actually feel like it will?

That’s what I felt like driving an E-Series or Express/Savana. Don’t understand why Enterprise keeps renting out 2.5 cargo vans.

I can field this one. It won’t really drift unless you have ideal conditions (snow/gravel). If you do it’ll slide around decently with the right amount of throttle and courage, but get it too sideways and traction control will kick in even if you turned it off. It also does handbrake turns on snow far better than something this big should.

Kinja'd!!!

It has them, but it almost feels like a car. Handling and turn-in is shockingly good for something this big.

Is that a “free candy” sign you’re painting back there?

They rent them because they can’t get 1500's anymore.

As far as driving goes, I found the E-Series terrifying—seemed to have a mind of it’s own—but the Expravanna to be quite composed. Didn’t encourage you to throw it around but didn’t feel uncomfortable to drive. Just did it’s job.

That being said I have firsthand experience that an Express can be chucked around... not me driving but I didn’t feel uncomfortable as a passenger. Who knew a 3500 Express passenger could be a drift monster?

The high roof ones are taller than you think. just ask a co-worker of mine who got one stuck driving down the ramp into a garage.

Transit is a goddamned sports car compared to Econoline.

I was responsible for the Transit’s audio systems.

yes, that’s the best I could do with what I had.

Yeah, the Stabilitrack did make it a bit better, but still wobbly. For my last moves I kinda hoped for like a Transit Connect or NV200. One person condo doesn’t have much large stuff to move.

I had an E-250 uhaul rental for my last move and I was shocked how much it didn’t suck. Felt entirely reasonable, and had no trouble driving at 80+ (contrasted to a Kia Forte rental I took on the same route, which was all sorts of squirrely, maybe it needed new tires)

A Little Tykes car is a sports car compared to an Econowhine.

Either you had very low expectations going in, or the E250 is a totally different animal from the E350. I was consciously scared of it. It wandered all over the place, took an enormous amount of wheel movement to get straightened out again, sounded like it was falling apart and would bounce violently all over the place as any bump.

Perspective--my family used to have one of these.

Kinja'd!!!

I loved driving it. Back when I was 16 and stupid I brought it down a windy side street in my neighbourhood at 70km/h without crossing the centerline. I do not condone this. I was an idiot. But the point on the van remains made. Chevy made a better driving van in 1988 than Ford did in 2013, and one that was STILL better than Ford’s 2013 offerings IN 2013.

you (or whoever bought the van) didn’t get the radio equipped with them :p

that is literally the basest of base radios.

Yeah it has those warnings and comparably the new transits are much less terrifying to drive I think most regular people could drive one and not be freaked out.

See the e-250's the business has always had always have 200K plus miles on them so they are a little sketchy 60+ mph

03/07/2017 at 15:01, STARS: 1

Yeah all of the E-series vans were like that to drive in my opinion, terrible to drive super vague hard to keep composed while driving lots of corrections to keep it moving

Will it drift? I used to drift my parents’ 92 Dodge B350 growing up, got it on two wheels, too.

I’m not product planning. I do integration, speakers, and tuning. someone above my pay grade decides what the options matrix will be.
