The city decided that my block needed a fire hydrant

Kinja'd!!!

Apparently they decided it should go directly on the property line between my place, and the lot next door. Also I guess gravel is soil and grass, and hydrants come pre-dirtied.

My tax dollars at work. It’s almost like nothing happened, you can hardly tell.....

I have no problem with being safer from fire, but really, they could’ve had adults do the job. Also this block is already packed at the end of the day, and now there’s 2-3 spots worth of unusable space, and I don’t get to park in front of my own place anymore.

I’m getting tired of living in the city.

That is stupid... Why not put it where that horrible asphalt is?

I don’t know, it should at least be out in view instead of hiding behind the hedge. I just know that people are gonna not see it and park there.

People will park there regardless.

Those colors... it’s almost like they were trying to camouflage the hydrant.

I should leave the “an attempt was made” star on the hydrant

Wow, did you get any notice whatsoever? I would complain about the finish to your local govt, I remember the town repaving my street when I was a kid and they used such cheap asphalt it was like driving on cemented gravel. My parents threw a shit fit at city hall and eventually it got replaced with real pavement.

Nothing but some no parking from 7-3:30 signs in front of our house since last monday, and they didn’t do anything until this morning. I’ll give them a week or two to come back and do the job properly before I call and complain, but the city seems to have dropped its standards for sewer/water crews in the last few years. The main road I take to get to work has shitty asphalt sections going on for blocks where they worked on some pipes and didn’t repave properly. It’s really quite pathetic, this city is sitting on something like a $60 million surplus last I heard, too.

I want to complain about how far back it is, but I also don’t want them to close the street for another whole day. Seriously, it took them all day to do.....that.

Your insurance should go down. Part of home insurance rates are calculated based on how far you are from a fire hydrant. I have one on the property line between my house and neighbor.

Well that’s pretty cool. Too bad I’m a renter, but it’ll nice for the landlords.

You can’t have a surplus if you spend it fixing the roads.
