I posted earlier today about some test drives I took on Saturday. After a few days of thinking about them, I can ’ t seem to get the SS out of my head. Even in an auto, it was a stupid amount of fun.

While I ’ m not in the market at the moment (Late summer more likely), I can ’ t help but to keep looking them up online. The one I test drove had a MSRP of $50k, and was marked down to $40k. That ’ s still a lot of money, but considering even the salesman indicated no one knew what they were, I could probably get that down another couple of grand, making it a lot more desirable.

The biggest downside to the small amount of sales is that most dealers don ’ t have them, and the used market is incredibly sparse. Especially when I start looking for a manual. Hopefully, either some are still on the lots at the end of the summer, or more start showing up in the used section.

Honestly, I ’ ve seen a few of them on the road, and while I knew what they were, always thought the styling was a little too boring. But dear god, hearing that engine start erases all of that.

I’ve seen a few of them on the road

Yes, with about 90% of them wearing Holden badges.

Just go swap and LSX into something interesting already.

You know, oddly enough I’ve never seen one with holden badges.

As someone in their mid-30s with a young family, I have little time or resources for engine swaps. I do have excellent credit however and appreciate a factory warranty. Considering the amount of comparisons that have been made to the venerable E39 M5, I would hardly call it “boring”. What it does do is not stand out when I don’t want it to, like in my office parking lot full of boring desk-dweller vehicles.

People on Reddit have apparently picked them up in the high 30's. Insane if true.

Ugh, Boucher.

That’s all I have to say about that.

I did find a couple manny SS’s at Newman and EVS (another UGH) up in my neck of the woods last week when the discount story on new ones broke.

Still, $40k is a bit over my budget.

Same, and there’s quite a few that roam around town.

Stars for the ughs.

It’s why I gave up and bought my Colorado from my parents long time dealer in Nebraska when I was living in Milwaukee.

Sounds like you really need a CTS-V because wagons, manual, and used they are cheaper than this and can still have a warranty if you like those.

The grille and decklid Holden badges are available as options from Chevy.

I’m still new to the world of Milwaukee dealership groups. Boucher that bad? Honestly I picked them because they were close to the spa my wife was at

It’s true. The 20% off puts them at around $40K MSRP. doesn’t take much to get them down some more

Just make sure you check over any vehicle you buy there REAL GOOD and make sure the Buyer’s Guide (if buying used) matches the condition of the car, and if they offer a warranty, you read the fine print a few times.

Still not sure how a POWER TRANSFER UNIT (or transfer case) isn’t covered under a POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, but everything else before, coming in and out, and after it ARE covered.

Yeah, that sounds pretty suspect to me. Was it an aftermarket or factory warranty?

Aftermarket that was provided with every used car they sold. And probably still is.

Interesting. I can’t imagine why they would exclude that from “powertrain” coverage. If the power goes through it, it should be assumed that its covered.

Every time I go to an auto show I troll the Chevy people about this car. I am concerned they forgot they make it for at least this model year. Most of the time they don’t know what I am talking about.

Every time I go to a dealer and look at one they blow me off as a thrill seeking 20 something that can’t afford this. And they would be right.

YEP, it’s hell of a thing to pay more for daycare than for your mortgage. Although, good news, my mortgage went up so now daycare is LESS than my mortgage ;)

Let me just say this:

It’s a good damn thing you already bought the car. I’m still going to be doing my rally crossing in the RallyMetro, but one big crash and it’s all over.

Yeah, daycare was more expensive with one kid on our first mortgage. Then we moved and the mortgage was higher.....then we had another kid lol.

Good news is we just came into some cash so we’re paying down a ton of debt so it’s freeing up a bunch of monthly budget.

No way I would’ve been able to re-accumulate the cash for the initial purchase again though. Thankfully all the initial purchase cash came from the sale of the Montego so I had cash in hand.

That’s great! We had gotten there a couple years ago, but then we were not disciplined about keeping it that way. We’re on a much better path now.

I made the huge mistake of not spending all the cash I got from the Apollo on it’s replacement. I managed to hang onto half of it, but if I kept it all I could actually afford a nice version of what I want to replace the Roadmaster with, a K5 Blazer/Bronco.

We’re considering bringing my wife home soon. I’ll have to hustle and pick up all the extra stuff around school I can, but I think we can make it work. We’ve just got to get our spending down a bit more.

Well, if I wasn’t going to re-invest it in a Rally car I wouldn’t have sold the Montego. It was Montego or Rally Car. At the time I wasn’t positive it would be a Capri, but I knew it would be related to Ford and off-roadable. Mustang, Capri, Probe GT (if I went FWD) were all on the list.

I knew if I could get over 3,000 for the Montego I could do it and the wife said it was fine as long as my budget was what I sold the Montego for.

And my wife has zero interest in being at home. She jokes about it every once in a while but she’ll get near the end of her maternity leave and be going stir crazy. As for being disciplined, we have been. Haven’t used a credit card in about a year and a half, maybe 2 years. Just paying them off SUCKS.

I hadn’t tried Rallycrossing when I sold my Apollo. If I had, I certainly would’ve done things differently.

My wife’s desire to come home is pretty new. Things have turned sour at her job, and alternative prospects in her field aren’t good. I’m sure she’ll return to the workplace when the kids are in school all day. She hates the typical stay at home mom’s who just sit around all day and make up problems to bitch about on Facebook.

Oh I’m sure.

And who knows maybe she will think that way too. We’d make due I think. I fully support stay at home moms, I think kids get a great experience at daycare/preschool tho.

If we can pull this off, we’re still going to put them in daycare a day or two a week. It’s been really valuable to have them there, they’ve learned so much that they wouldn’t have learned just being at home. Also, they love it there, and I would feel horrible taking that away from them.

Also, another thing to consider on getting them there a couple days a week.

My neighbors across the street (Great people, quickly becoming our best friends) have 4 kids, none did daycare because the Mom stayed home and the are ALWAYS sick. It really does seem to help the immune system.

YES! It definitely fortifies them to be around other kids all the time. Also not bathing them in Purel every time they touch anything.
