Kinja'd!!!

It’s nice, but not nicer than my wife’s Sedona.

Conversion as in, something like a BraunAbility van, based on the lack of a front passenger seat?

C.o.L. is disabled. Hence said chariot reference and avatar.

Yes, exactly. Sorry for not being specific.

Starred for being attentive and remembering! I should say that I am only her to get my hand controls on the RX-8 adjusted. I have never owned one of these vans, but they’re pretty sweet.

Sales gal tells me the conversion costs $28k over the cost of the car.

28k. I just can’t. Hey, let’s make mobility so stupid expensive and force disabled people to struggle some more! I hate this world sometimes.

They’re crazy expensive. My dad’s best friend was paralyzed from the chest down in a car accident, and his employer bought him a Town & Country BraunAbility conversion. Something like $70k CAD in 2011 or so.

Spendy, certainly. As ‘60s Fords seem to be my bag lately, I must say I don’t think one of those would be impossible to fit hand controls to, and for less than $28k... Ever thought of getting more toys than just the RX-8?

Yeah it’s not trivial. They have to send it in to drop the floor 14 inches and basically rebuild much of the body. At least Texas gives you exemption from sales tax if you get mobility aids, and several auto makers give an allowance to help with conversion. But still

Yeah, not cheap, and you lose much cargo capacity. But if it makes you mobile when you otherwise wouldn’t be, you find a way. I wonder what the used market is for these.

For sure, it definitely made things easier than they would’ve been without it.

I didn’t see anything about an LS swap in that rundown...at least they could do an LS swap while they had ‘er tore down.

That should be an option. Shredded front tires anyone?

This may sound like a weird request, but does your Sedona have a BraunAbility conversion? If so, may I please see a picture of it? Thank you.

Not weird at all. It does not have a conversion. We simply put left side hand controls on the steering column for me to drive it. When I drive it alone, I just haul myself into the driver’s seat, disassemble the chair, and throw it behind me into the back seat. That said, if there is anything you would like to know about conversions, I will do my best to find out for you or answer your questions, if you like.

Thank you. I asked because my previous and current searches for wheelchair vans, as well as a Google search of Sedonas, showed only rear-entry, previous generation models, and only one picture of a current model. No side entry conversions.

Ah. Well, what I sat in today was a side conversion of a Pacifica by VMI. I have also seen a side entry Braun conversion of a Dodge Caravan at work in the parking lot, but I have not seen a Sedona version. When I search Google, the problem is I get lots of entries about the older model. The Sedona was all new for 2015, and is a completely different and far superior car, but I can’t figure how to search for it specifically.
