I was in VA all weekend, but I couldn’t stop myself from doing some more on the workbench when I got home yesterday.

Since the first post , I have added a few more things:

-A really green tool box from Viper Storage. I added some soft rubber mat that I picked up on Amazon.

Kinja'd!!!

-An LCD screen that I yanked out of an old laptop. I built a frame for it and ordered a controller board.

-Pre wired for a switched outlet, that will power the light underneath the work surface as well as the LCD screen. I also added a few other mounting/storage solutions.

Finally, the bench as it stands. Almost complete.

What will the screen do?

Not 100% yet. Probably just for googling/videos related to whatever I’m working on.

I’m thinking about adding an input selector so that I can loop the house feed. The output from my home theater receiver is distributed throughout the house so that you can watch it on any, or all of the TV’s.

I have to wait for the controller board before I can switch it on and see how functional it will be. It will arrive between next week and May 5th lol.

I’m leaning toward connecting it to my old mac mini as I can run mac or windows from it. If it turns out to bee too small, I have a larger LCD that I can swap in.

Garage organization and work bench electronics integration is a special kind of pornography.

Haha it’s true, I can only look at pics of other peoples setups for so long. Then I start to hate what I’ve created lol.

Bad ass.

Feel free to stop over to my place and build one.

Haha I’ve really enjoyed building it. I’m a mess when I don’t have something to do. I’ve got to figure out a way to make money with my hands. This computer/office stuff is for the birds.

You’re welcome! I’m particularly digging on your sawzall storage solution. You’ve got a pretty solid tool collection going as well. I spy Klein wire strippers and Greenlee screw drivers.

Thanks! I’ve gotten several complements on the sawzall. That idea was the result of me just sitting staring at the bench in the wee hours of the morning while my wife was away. Great tool to have, but I don’t use it often and it’s awkward to store.

My tool collection is a testament to my love of tinkering/odd professional background. I started installing car stereos/alarms/etc for circuit city, and thus the high quality strippers/nippers tiny tools, I then moved on to the home theater/automation install division. When circuit city shut their doors, none of my team got a severance. So my boss said “get anything that is yours or is about to become yours off of your trucks before you bring them around for inspection. There I got all of my heavy duty tools (Sawzall, hammer drill....) After that I started in IT, but never fully got away from the installation/construction side. So I have continued to collect specialty tools for fishing wire, etc.

It’s funny though now that all of my tools are out of the 7 tool bags that they have been in for the last 10 years, I’m like “where’d all my tools go?” It just seems like less now that everything is on the bench.

I was going to guess you were an electrician at some point. I was close!
