The only reason I would ever buy something like this is to have a vehicle I could beat the everliving shit out of and not be concerned about hurting it or its resale value.
Think of all the double-parked assholes you could squeeze in next to and not care if they key your rusty white paint.

Needs two more cylinders and two more driven wheels. I know I can’t actually expect that for the price.

“Hard pass” sounds like the title of a gay romance novel.

Bah, here in the flatlands you really don’t need 4wd unless you go off-road or you plow snow.

It’s got too few driven wheels and two less cylinders than it needs. But I do love me some work truck trim.

This is Illinois, we don’t really have hills. Unless you’re plowing snow or going off-road, 4wd is just an expensive luxury.

Metro-Detroit, wouldn’t own a truck without 4wd. The difference in snow and bad weather is monumental. Especially considering the weight balance.

Exactly! I can’t see myself owning more than one truck or SUV at a time so it has to be able to perform several roles, and off-roading is just too fun.
TBH a full-size truck would be too big to shove up that particular trail anyway but I tend to prefer tamer stuff.
edit: words are hard

I’m wrapping up winter #16 in Chicagoland DDing 2wd trucks. The first six of those were on all season tires with an open differential. I got stuck once like that. The last 11 years I’ve had a locking rear end, and six years ago I got a set of Blizzaks. Once I got the snow tires, I found I didn’t even need to put any weight on the bed. I’ll probably get 4wd whenever I buy my next truck, but just because it’d be fun to have, it’s definitely not a necessity.

Yeah, modern fullsize trucks are too big for most off-road trails, as I understand it anyways. We don’t have any of that stuff around here.

It can be done in 2wd, I used to have a 2wd Ranger and survived. But, it is definitely nice to have the 4wd and makes life much easier. I don’t consider it a luxury, just a valuable option.

You don’t really want to be any bigger than like a Land Cruiser or a new Tacoma.
Most of the time it’d be fine but that one narrow spot or aggressive breakover angle is all it takes to ruin your day

I’ve never felt like I wa just surviving. I actually love driving in the snow, and always prefer my 2wd truck on snow tires over my wife’s AWD CUV on all seasons.

A buddy of mine got a new Taco a few months ago. That thing has a huge schnoz! I can imagine a few scenarios where that gets in the way.
