UPDATE: Got a guy who’s a Subaru fanatic from Arizona waiting for a tax check to clear and then we’re good to go. :D :D Time to find my Wilderness Wagon!

Ok, someone either needs to make me an offer on the War Wagon or talk me out of selling it until the wheels fall off. :P I’ve had many great adventures with this car since I bought it in 2011 with 137k on it, but it’s really showing its age and I’m having less and less time to work on it as I get older (2 kids, 2 side businesses, day job, etc.). This car started out as a dream. I’ve wanted a Subaru wagon since I was a kid and my dad wrecked our 1995 Outback before I learned how to drive it. Since then, it’s been a great car to tear up back roads in New England with, been driven all the way from Connecticut to Missouri, and still gets looks from new STI owners with the knowing nod of “damn... that’s a nice car.”

Kinja'd!!!

If you’re interested let me know! Here’s the details of the car:

Year, Make and Model: 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited Wagon
Color: Obsidian Black Pearl
Miles: 215.900
Transmission: 5 Speed Manual
Title: 3 accidents (see details below)
Lien: No liens
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
VIN: 4S3BP676356321634
Email address: dzehner2@gmail.com
Asking Price: $6,000 OBO

New engine at 209k (2006 STI EJ257 long block, reworked heads, new valves, new gaskets, added a BNR 16G turbo along with it). Other mods include:
Performance:
-Grimmspeed LW crank pulley
-Grimmspeed catless up pipe
-Invidia catless down pipe
-Tune by Tuning Alliance (93 octane)
-BNR 16G turbo
-Cobb cold air intake
-Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch Kit (installed during the engine rebuild)

Exterior/cosmetic:
- Enkei Performance EKM3 wheels
-Window tints

Interior:
-JDM Double DIN kit
-Pioneer AVH-X3500 BHS head unit
-Video monitor head rests
-Remote start (Viper unit, need to purchase new remote if selling)

As with any car of this age, there’s a few things to look out for:
-Need to replace the driver’s side window switch. The driver’s window doesn’t roll down at the moment.
-Seat heater just broke this winter. Probably just the soldered connection on the signal wire. Will check out before sale.
-Common wear and tear for a car this age, but interior is in decent shape.
-3 no-fault accidents will show up on CarFax. Had a large tree branch fall on the hatch, got hit while parked at a friend’s house (minor cosmetic damage only), and hit a deer (glass damage only, no airbag deployment). I have pictures of all damage upon request, including receipts for repairs.

GAH! Drat. How’s the Allroad? I’m taking auditions for a new wagon. Currently my finalist is a 2010-2014 Outback 3.6 R, but I can be persuaded. :P

I once had a conversation with an Audi guy. He told me he only buys used Audis. It’s easy, just make sure you budget at least half the purchase price to repairs every year.

Well, not with this one anyway... :P The aim is to get a newer Outback that I’ll modify with my son when he’s a bit older to go on some overland adventures together. But until he’s ready to wrench with me, it’s just gotta be a good DD without much work on my part.

If this subaru is giving you headaches, why the hell would you want an allroad?

Also I kind of really want this. But I won’t give up my b5.5 4motion Passat, have no space for it, and know jackshit about Subarus. Besides, I’m already spending more and more time on my Passat as is... And I’m broke.

But, if its still for sale in a couple months, hopefully I’ll be at a place where I can buy it. Because I do want it... Even if its several states (PA resident here) over.

Like I said, I’m taking auditions... Not saying that any car that auditions will pass said audition! I think the Audi has just performed the “William Hung on American Idol” of auditions for my next wagon...

That makes sense. Don’t buy an Allroad then!

I nearly bought a new Legacy GT back in the day, a new ‘05 that was still on the lot in ‘06, although it was an auto. Such a good looking car! I often wonder what might have been. Yours, unfortunately, is out of my fun car price range by 1/3, so good luck with the sale.

I did like it, its just that I got a really poor example that was probably neglected. it was an awesome looking car, cool features but not reliable, especially as a DD

I’d be tempted to trade you my car for it, but...

I have a 2005 Legacy GT sedan with a manual in Obsidian black pearl, with less miles and a clean history (other than an owner that did some questionable mods, no not me).

The wagon would be a nice thing to get back, I miss not having the room to carry things.

I sold my 2005 Regal Blue GT Sedan to buy the wagon, for just that reason (and the fact that it was only 37k more miles and cheaper!). :)

Well, I support VW Golf Sportwagen (not alltrack).

According to my father who test drove one, it drives surprisingly like his old (now mine) b5.5 Passat. And I consider the b5.5 Passat to be a fun car to drive. mine is also 4 motion, so no annoying FWD really.

I also would rather get an older Audi A6 Wagon over an allroad. But I just think it looks better.

Beyond that, when I got the Passat, my Dad wound up replacing it with manual VW Golf GTI. Now that’s a fun car... I would HIGHLY recommend it.

10/10 recommend. Will probably buy it off him when hes done with it.

DISCLAIMER: I have only ever driven the Passat, and the GTI. Well until I wrecked it, but that is a different story...

I had the twin of your car pretty much – 2005 GT wagon with 5MT in black. Sold it about 2 years ago with 140k miles. Was a great car, didn’t give me too much trouble but just didn’t need the extra big car at the time. Since then we’ve moved to the PNW and I’m wishing I had kept it – would’ve been a great all weather car out here. If you have the need for the space and the AWD capability, and you’re aware of its history and issues (and feel comfortable with them), I’d say keep the car. I’ve been casually looking for something similar that would tick all the boxes and just don’t see anything on the market that is newer and worth the money. I don’t like taking huge depreciation hits, and looking at most vehicles that are a few years old nothing even remotely comes close. The car had its issues and bothered me some – straight line acceleration and freeway driving was awesome, but throwing it around on a windy road, not so much. You can’t blame the car for that though – it is what it is, if it works for you, keep it.

my Passat b5.5 has 170 HP, and 166 ft-lbs of torque. I will state this is enough power. The Golf Alltrack has another 33 torque over that. Even as an enthusiast, I rarely find myself begging for more power from the car. Albeit, I do feel that I use full throttle more then I would like... But I can outrun my friends 2016 Toyota Corolla. On paper of course.

As is, I’m sure at the ‘limit’ my car is limited by the suspension and not the engine... I mean, to each there own, but I do personally think 170 HP is plenty.

03/07/2017 at 08:05, STARS: 0

That’s a good perspective. I’m sure I’ll miss my 290 hp turbo awesomeness, but 256 hp from an Outback 3.6 isn’t too shabby.

How’s the cargo space in the GTI? One of my requirements for the replacement is that I can fit 8 ft long boards in there when I need to haul lumber for furniture projects.

03/09/2017 at 09:10, STARS: 1

HAHAHA NOPE

No way in hell... Well, I mean, maybe if you lay the rear seats and passenger seat down. Honestly, I don’t know. We’ve never tried because we have the Passat for long haul duties. But, even in my Passat wagon, an 8ft long 2x4 comes to an end just above the shifter, making manual shifting on the Tiptronic nearly impossible (or really really awkward).

If my car was stick, I couldn’t haul lumber in the back, because I would not be able to shift...

But, in all reality, its most likely possible , but it’d be a REALLY tight squeeze. If its a once a year type deal, you could probably get away with it. If its once a month, you’d get sick of it.

My dad was really unsure of the GTI aswell, because he wanted a Wagon replacement. But then he test drove one with a stick and fell in love.

Kinja'd!!! "DrZ" (dzehner2)
03/09/2017 at 09:34, STARS: 0

Yeah, not saying it’s been easy to haul lumber in the Legacy, but yeah an 8 foot board ends right above the shifter. Not fun to drive like that. :P
