Kinja'd!!!

Spend all weekend commiserating with former Audi owners about their bad experiences.

I don’t miss that car one bit.

I was going to make a post gloating that that story had 170+ responses that were almost entirely VW/Audi and Mini, but the only mention of Jag was LJ909 saying S-Type and someone else who said they wished they had kept their XK8.

Audis have a reputation that just scares me.

Fun to drive. Sucks to maintain.

I almost bought an Allroad before my A4. Your experiences solidified my concerns.

Reasons VW group products scare me.

yea its too bad. That was the perfect car for me. It could be sporty or offroad in a push of a button. I loved the 6 sp and the sound the 2.7 made. I wanted to get the 3rd row rear facing seats. It was great for taking to construction sites. Classy and can handle the mud.

Even my Subaru salesguy spent half of the test drive complaining about his Audi.

If it’s under warranty it’s all good.

Seems like a common gripe.

I wanted one for the same reasons. Hauls kids and all their shit. But it’s tough when it’s constantly breaking.

Meanwhile, my RX-7 is still the most reliable I’ve ever owned after almost two years with it now... I don’t get it. I had planned for it to be a nightmare. I was certain it would be one... Yet...

Ugh, but the 6-speed allroad was still the most enjoyable test drive I’ve ever had (save for the first car I bought with my own money).

It’s a siren song, I tell you. S I R E N!

It’s not even the unreliability that’s scary, it’s the PITA to do anything yourself that scares me off.

I’m saving this post.

I’m so used to seeing the “I had a ____ once and it was the last ____ car my family ever bought” posts it’s actually funny.

I love your RX7. I know people say that with the right maintenance any car can be reliable. But I think VAG products are the exception

Yeah, only “problems” I’ve had on it were a bad alternator wire that created some misfires at high RPM ($5 fix), an AC relay that controlled the AC along with the “AC-on idling” that screwed up my idling a little and had my AC stop working ($10 fix) and finally front right side steering ball joints that need replacement, but this is more of a regular maintenance thing... ($100 fix for all of them or so...).

My parents have had ALL Golf and Polos since the very 1stgen of each lol. I don’t like VW now thanks to them :)

Just know if get a modern-ish VAG product that hits 100k you’re in for a bad time.

I’ll stick with old Ford trucks and Honda ATVs. Not an exciting selection for sure. But they’re loyal as a good Black Lab.

I changed coils and attempted the tstat but once I saw how cramped and close in everything was I said “fuck it” and sent it to the shop.

Buying a used Allroad is like having unprotected sex with a junky. It may be great for a bit, but you are gonna regret it.

I have a 2004 Passat, which I got from my father in September 2015. This car is my first car. Since the Passat is basically an Audi A4, I am throwing my opinion in here:

I freaking love my Passat. 104k miles on it at this point, and still relatively bulletproof. I only have 2 electrical gremlins. One is my turn signal stalk sometimes makes the click noise, without hitting the stalk. Usually when its cold out. The other is that my park horn sometimes does not beep.

It’s only stranded me/my family once due to a failed fuel pump.

And I’d also like to disclaim that my father has beaten on this car... It has seen an autocross and rally cross over its 13 year life span. I know these cars have a bad reliability reputation, but I don’t understand why mine seems to be the exception.

I mean its not perfect... My car has an appetite for several things:

-Secondary Air Pumps (on my 3rd in the past 7 years, and my current one has gone bad)

-CV Joints (3 in the past 3)

-Tires (needs a new set every 25k)

But beyond those couple things, everything else is pretty much good. Albeit, all 4 of rims are apparently bent, but I also got those from a Jetta...

TL:DR; I will continue to buy VW.
