Kinja'd!!!

The XF is a really good car, better than I’ll ever give it credit for. I think my dreams of an XJL Supersport (no, not an XJR) have been holding me back from actually loving this car. It honestly is an awesome package. Blends in and can be down right boring when it needs to be. Can discard maturity, stick any line you place it on, and will solidly hang with anything short of the 450 hp mark around town.

You should check these out, Oppo. The 2012 model year was the only time you could get the NA 5.0 V8 with the refreshed front end (though the pre-facelift looks really good on the road, just not in pictures or when dirty). I also prefer the ZF 6-speed (6HP28) simply because I don’t care for paddling the 8-speed.

You know, I don’t at all regret this purchase even though my dream car could be had for $6,000 more than this XF. I had very specific reasons and it doubles for my mom to have something nice to drive and match her friends at church and work. Though since her 2004 Camry has been down since November she has been using it as a daily...putting a lot more miles than I had planned for on it. But the smile on her face and the fact that it has completely transformed her driving makes it a far better choice than that Acura RLX or Lexus RX she was leaning towards.

Thank goodness this Jaaag popped up with only 16,000 miles and for at least $3,000 less than any of those Japanese cars. Only thing I forgot at the time was that I need to get it paid off before I can even pretend to look at a house. Then I can get my XJL SS and a Scout!!

All my favorite brands get incentives thrown on them when new and depreciate like wedding dresses (Maserati, Jaguar, Kia in that order). Great values but remember this Oppo, just because the list prices stabilize doesn’t mean the trade-in value stops plummeting. If you buy at $19,000 and see its trade-in value was $16,000 at the time don’t be surprised when 18 months later the value is $8,000 but they’re all listing at $16,000.

I agree that it is a nice car, but something for your mom to match her friends at work and church with?

I’m waiting patiently for an oddly similar FP post now.

“Maserati, Jaguar, Kia”

Really?

Stick with anything short of 450? I ran a high 11 at 117 with probably 420.

Does this thing trap over 115?

Yeah, she has been a single income household for over a decade while her buddies are all dual income. So all of them have new stuff and her Camry, though she loves it, isn’t so fresh and everybody gets that new car itch (especially entering your 50s). It’s no different from all your friends owning Ms and AMGs leading you to favor that old V8 S5 over the newer Accord Coupe you had an eye for.

Really! There is an underlying logic but I’d have to explain a lot of other things since the Kia part is what throws everyone off, though the Maserati part is the least logical one...

Heck if I know, I’ve only driven on public roads.

It’s unlikely. The xfr runs 12's at 116. The sc traps around 111. NA car is somewhere between a v6 mustang and a gt mustang. It’s a 107-ish car. Not slow but not fast.

I get Kia I guess. Hyundai and Kia have really done some amazing stuff in their troubled lives here in the U.S.

I’d think Kia or Hyundai before Lincoln for instance.

Didnt Honda stop making the accord coupe?

Nope! Still going strong but I’d be surprised if the next generation Accord (which we should see this year) will offer it.

If your metric for how fast a car is round town involves terminal speeds of 100+mph, remind me never to drive in your town

Trap speeds are a good indication of how quickly a car accelerates from a roll. Didn’t bother to mention 0-60 or 1/4 mile times are those are too driver and traction dependent. Trap speeds are pretty universally consistent.

This sort of scenario could come up if two cars were accelerating as they merged onto the highway. If both cars accelerate from 30mph to 70mph or so, then the higher trapping car is likely going to win.

Also, your use of the term “terminal speed” implies that the numbers I mentioned are the fastest those cars can go. I assume you simply misused the term.

Realistically, a quick car shouldn’t be driven very hard around town, PERIOD. Notice how I posted times that my car does at the track? That’s the only place I push it really hard. I can have more fun at Road Atlanta, AMP, and Atlanta Dragway than I could ever have on the street without endangering random people around me.

Do tell, what do you participate in on the street to determine how fast your car is on the street? Maybe slow-car-fast is less dangerous to have fun in, but I suspect people should avoid your town based on your comment. ;)

Also, how do you like your GT86? Thinking of picking up one that was beat up regularly on the track, but I’ve heard bad things about the Subbie plant in them. Really wish Toyota had gone with something like a modern 2ZZ.
