So how's everyone doing?

I’ve been building a 500 point project for the whole day. I’m glad to report that it’s coming together very well, but my back and feet are hurt. The idiots at Lowe’s don’t know what 5" x 25.5" looks like, so I had to re-cut the remnants from what I had them cut for me. With my circular saw, I was able to get closer to what I wanted than they could with their big fancy thing.

I once stumped the guy working the saw at Lowe’s by asking for him to cut a sheet of plywood to “2 and a half feet, or 30 inches, whichever’s easier for you” - after much “I can do either, which do you want?” I went with 30 inches as a safer answer.

Moral of the story: Don’t expect them to get it any closer than +/- 1"

Also the code for the saw is usually 1234 or 4321

That’s why at my store (and everybody is supposed to do this), we tell customers that the saw is only designed for rough cutting. Trust me I know how to measure and how to cut to be very precise with just about any saw out there, yet time and time again that saw will screw up the cut. Pulling one way or the other, not to mention fraying the edges. The only thing it’s good for is rapid cuts for people who don’t need it exact, and cutting bulk orders of plywood for contractors. Also, it is not a ripping saw. Rant over............ for reference I just got off work, at Lowes :/

In my defense, I asked them if they’d be able to do exact cuts, and they assured be that they’d be within a quarter of an inch. They wound up cutting at least one inch too much on each of my pieces.

Most of us experienced guys at Lowes don’t even question or correct people when they do stuff like that because, most of the time they are serious, and woe betide the associate who uses his head and tries to explain it to the customer. My buddy tells a story corraborated by witnesses of a women coming in an requesting a window which was 72 finger widths by 32 finger widths. That one was a head scratcher.

Oh I agree with you, it’s on them for making that promise, also the lumber end guys tend to be near the bottom of the intelligence ladder :P #wishiwasjoking

I’ve been looking for a place that you can order precision cut plywood and have it delivered. No luck so far. It would be great for hobbyists like me who have the tools to put things together, but either don’t have the space for a table saw or just don’t like dealing with that part of it. I’m seriously thinking of starting a web-based one. You send in drawings and the type/thickness of wood you want and it shows us two days later or maybe even same say from a local store. Despite what you may be thinking, I am actually not hungover. Look I made enchilada casserole! I’ve been stuck logged into work most of the day working on simulations for a project. Client needs to know if the current design will work by Wednesday and it is a tight deadline.

Kind impressed with that. Because that take’s way more effort than buying a tape measure.
