Fun-ish fact:
Alcantara is a latinized version of the Arabic word “al-Qantara,” which means “the bridge.” Lots of Hispanic countries have places called Alcantara. So, I guess it was an attempt at giving their material a name connected to a place of production like “Cashmere.” Personally, I’d have named it whatever the Arabic is for “nasty vile synthetic suede that ruins resale values.”
