Well I guess to each their own but sometimes you can also just be flat out wrong. Which do you think has aged and will age more gracefully?

That posts sounds like it was written by an MB salesman.

Defiantly the BMW. I don’t even know what gen/year it is, but when I think of a modern BMW that’s what comes to mind. The timless MB IMO are these.

Of course these were brand new when I was just old enough to actually know things about cars beside “VROOM” so I’m biased.

I don’t know about you but i’ll take the c300 over the 328 or 335i all day, all night, all year long. Once again, to each his own

The post-LCI E9x is like peak modern BMW design for me personally. The C, while I like how it looks, just isn’t as easy on the eyes.

I can be nice and say they are equal. They both have a fanbase, and have aged well. The BMW does have that chime going for it, but turn signals are almost never found on that era 3er.

I can not argue with this. Love those body styles. That E-Class was to die for.

It’s aggressive but certainly not timeless. At full tilt sounds nice but doesn’t have half the feel of the 3

I’d have to pick the Mercedes. Not that I think either will go down in history as a “timeless” design, let alone a good design. Then again I could count the designs from BMW I’ve liked in the last 10 years on one hand

Hot take: neither are particularly good looking.

Even though I have a real irrational dislike of MBs (and a mild one for new BMWs, so I’m essentially unbiased), I do think that generation of C-Class is both a better design and more timeless than that generation of 3-Series.

While the BMW is a reasonable looking car, the MB is just a sharper design. Less globular, which is something that afflicts most modern cars (the BMW only at the front). Not to say that the BMW is a bad looking car at all though.

‘Timeless’ is a bit of an odd accolade as well. Reading through a load of old reviews from the 70s, 80s and 90s I’ve noticed that a lot of cars lauded for being ‘timeless’ these days (such as the E28 and E60) were panned for being boring and unimaginative designs when they came out.

In the long run, I fully expect cars like the generic Audi (they all look the same) to be praised for being ‘timeless’ when in actuality they just haven’t bothered changing their design for nearly a decade...

the MB is more timeless. The BMW wears it’s mid 2000's on its sleeve for better or worse.

I think that he was really talking about the badge. He’s probably feels that a Mercedes will have more lasting appeal than a BMW.

Car Guy has it pretty much right — with the added observation that the Mercedes has Asian-looking overtones everywhere (think “Kia” or “Honda”) and the a$$ end looks pure Mitsubishi...or is that Mazda Protege? [I rest my case.] If that’s someone’s “timeless,” well OK
