Only about 9 months after moving.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been trying to score a nice speaker setup at the thrift stores, for now it runs through our TV speaker bar. Less is lost than I thought, still a fairly warm and deep sound.

Dope inaugural record choice. Just got an actual receiver for my hifi after about a year of using a cheap 20 W car amp

You could not have chosen a better record to play.

I agree. I’m also proud to say that after adjusting the speed completely by ear/memory to Baba O’Riley, I pulled it up on YouTube to check my work and the tempo was EXACT.

I have some extra “mid-fi” speakers I could let go. Bang for buck newer stuff you could try some Andrew Jones designed Pioneer speakers...probably not a better speaker in the price range. Speaker kits from Parts Express are another low cost option if you are handy with soldering. If you stick to old school a vintage stereo receiver and some Epicure 100's are a nice choice. I have a soft spot fore Epicure’s (EPI) 100's and you can get brand new parts from Human Speakers for them as he bought the old stuff to keep making them....that sweet inverted dome tweeter is lovely. I have an early pair I’m putting new bits in now to use with my HK tt and will pair with a vintage receiver.

Speakers are a dime a dozen in the thrift stores, the receiver is the problem.

vintage 70's and early 80's receivers carry a hipster tax now...mid 80's on models though, not so much. You’ll want a good speaker, not the old big house speaker that came with the Sony component stereo that’s only purpose was loud. You want something worth sitting and listening to that is as transparent as possible with incredible mid range...you’ll know what it is when you hear it and it will change how you listen. Then you’ll discover room acoustics and how just a few basic panels and a bass trap can change everything.

try to find a working NAD3020 integrated, best bank for the buck amp ever and also has a pretty good phono stage in it
