Well guys, I realized I finally found a car here in Okinawa that fit most of the boxes when I saw this again online today:

I had originally dismissed it because of it’s age and lack of information, but since I changed my mind a bit on what I would prefer with regard to a decent deal, I thought I should consider it again.

I texted the number and found out it is AWD, but it’s the 2.0i and not the 2.0R.

I still thought I should at least go look at it since it only ha 65k on the clock, will get a brand new Shaken, and come with a warranty. for $3500 and it’s here in Okinawa.

I went I looked, and discovered that shady used car dealers definitely exist in Okinawa. Maybe the car was mechanically sound,

but the dash was severely cracked, the front bumper showed evidence of being quickly repainted (quick nuts for license plate were painted, but one had slipped showing different level of paint underneath),

the radiator upper hose had discoloring consistent with overheat spewing the red coolant JDM cars typically use, strut towers were rusty. Oh, and it was throwing an Error code on the dash while the car struggled to maintain idle and almost died a few times.

And he had it running when I arrived, up at operating temperature. This may have been because he needed to move it out from a back position on the lot, or a courtesy thing in Japan, but the other lots I have visited so far have not had the car running and invited me to start to car or just look them over.

Oh well, at least I know to keep looking in the Tokyo area, and managed to catch a glimpse of Turetto’s Okinawan staging area:

If it can’t maintain idle and nearly dies doing so, he didn’t have it running at operating temp as a courtesy, he had it running when you arrived because it probably does unpleasant things on cold starts, like blowing smoke or not starting at all.

My thought as well, but as I haven’t visited many car dealers here, I thought I could at least give the potential benefit of the doubt.
