New brakes on my wife’s CX-5 today! We went with Wagner Thermoquiet ceramic pads and Raybestos rotors. Heads up for other CX-5 owners: The CX-5 seems to wear its rear brakes more quickly than the front ones. Our rear rotors and pads were pretty much ready to be replaced but the front ones weren’t bad at all. 43,000 miles on the vehicle.

The front rotors were a tiny bit warped at 32,000 miles or so, so I had them turned. The rears haven’t been touched until they were replaced today.

None of the brakes were in bad shape, really, but since this vehicle transports my wife and newborn son, I’m not skimping on anything. I went ahead and did all 4 pads and rotors for the sake of uniformity and longevity. We don’t plan on getting rid of the vehicle anytime soon, so I figured “Why not?”

Also had my PDR guy stop by the house the other day and he got 4 pretty big dings out of the driver’s door.

My aunt’s accord eats rear brakes. Such an odd thing.

Damn, just 43k miles? The front brakes lasted 81k miles on my Taco and I could have easily squeezed another 20k more, but I don’t fuck around with brakes.

I could have went a lot longer with these. I just didn’t want to.

Oil, brakes, mirrors, windshield wipers. I don’t push my luck with any of those.

On my protege5 and my sx4 both I got the brakes done at about 50000kms.(pads and rotors) that’s like 30000 miles. I even replaced the summer tires at the same time on the protege5. When the had about 15000 miles on them since they were only used for half the time since also have summers.

I drive fast 10-20 above limit, and we have no straight roads here. Don’t get me started on windshields, since in my 20 years plus driving, i never had a perfect windshield for more than 3 months. (They use a lot of sand on our roads)

Even on my pathfinder my windshield has a great big ass crack that happened about 2 months after buying it. Got a chip by a car from the opposite direction, was about to turn arround to get it fixed and it started cracking. So fuck it.....

I drive 30k miles a years, and through various construction sites. So my windshield is trashed, cosmetically. I know that as soon as I replace it, I’ll just get a big ass rock flung up at it on day 1 so why bother.

Traction control or the ABS applying more brake to the back to help keep it level under braking for control, maybe? (I’ve seen something in car ads here in Japan about Active Braking Systems)

That’s what I have heard and found during my research on the matter. My car has EBD (electronic brake distribution) so I am guessing the CX-5 does, too.

I have always been OCD with car maintenance with the two daily drivers (less so with the S10 since it only does 1,500 - 2,000 miles a year) but now that we have our little bubba on board, I am even more so.

Yeah pretty much all skyactiv mazdas do that, I had a first today-<15,000 mile mazda3 and the brakes were <4mm. Not sure how she even did that.

My outback needed rear brakes at 33k. I am thinking it’s the traction control because we don’t drive it hard at all and the fronts are still 60% or so. Meanwhile my 2006 Mazda did 65k on the original brakes. The rears were still at 40% but the fronts were down to the metal, no traction control on that car.

I didn’t know anybody still had a brake lathe. Nowadays the rotor just get tossed when it’s time.

ABS aside, maybe th uneven wear is the proportioning valve being off?

Every CX-5 does it, though. It’s well documented.

My dad’s 2015 Scion xB has had the front brakes replaced twice already. 25,000 miles.

Yep. The rears on ours were done at ~58k miles. Fronts still have~50% pad left.

It’s a perfect scenario for car companies, “wait you mean we get to market improved safety & performance, AND we increase the wear on normal maintenance parts. Let’s push this out immediately.”

Well, at the rate my wife is driving our CX-5, it’ll need new brakes in about 12 years ... or when my daughter who is in preschool is about ready to drive.
