Apollo 11 module is at the udvar-hazy air and space annex. It’s cold today and we got little else to do, so we took the kids this morning. I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s awesome.

Very real. At the Udvar-hazy air and space annex by Dulles airport (Virginia). They have this there to fix up, the enola gay, a Concord, a sr-71 Blackbird, a space shuttle, and many other great examples of historical aircraft.

What’s so amazing about the U-H Center is that they don’t have a B-29 dressed up to look like the Enola Gay. They have THE Enola Gay. They don’t have an old 707 painted to look like the Dash-80. They have THE Dash-80. And the list goes on. Hell, when they parked the Dash-80 in there, they didn’t even clean the bugs off the windshield.

Yup, it’s incredible. And how close you can get to them amazing. The size usually blows me away. The engines on the Blackbird, the space shuttle, are just so big.

I was there as well. It was cool to see and I have almost exactly the same pic. We were there when they opened and beat the crowds. Had a really good talk with the lady doing the work on the fabric flight controls on Flak Bait. It also sounds like the lady who oversees conservation of the Apollo capsules has a dream job.

You sure it’s a rotary and not a radial? Looks like the latter to me. f86sabre below said it’s a Pratt & Whitney; they never made any rotaries to my knowledge.
