So what’s in a name? Well, after not getting behind the wheel of a Skoda in quite some time we took the big daddy of the brand - the Superb - out for a spin.

Kinja'd!!!

Powered by a puny little 1.4 turbo petrol lump, we really weren’t expecting much. Pair it with a silky smooth DSG and you have yourself a dieselgate winner.

Over 300 miles there was still fuel in the tank, and at no point did the 1.4 making 148 BHP feel wanting.

Kinja'd!!!

With it’s almost limousine like qualities and a well specced interior, why would anyone opt for anything else? You can keep your Mercs and Beemers. Skoda has all you execs covered.

You can read the full Skoda Superb Hatchback Review over on Carwitter, it was just too much to repost on here.

Seat and Skoda sure make some nice looking cars. VW should do the same and they own them :/

Nice write up for the SE L Exec 1.4TSi ACT.

Mine has the manual gearbox and in the U.K. the Leather Interior that cost £1,350 is standard on the SE L Exec so I don’t know where that cost came in. I can only assume it had the perforated leather but it doesn’t appear to.

Kinja'd!!!

The SE L Exec isn’t the range topping spec, it was the second from top after the all singing and all dancing L&K (Laurent & Klement, a nod to the two guys that started the company all those years ago from making bicycles), with the addition of the Sportline spec it has moved further down the list to just above mid range. The Sportline is in most parts an SE L Exec with black accents here and there to give it a more purpose full stance and sporty look.

The leather interior is super soft and comfortable even on long motorway journeys with so much legroom to stretch out your legs out.

Kinja'd!!!

Sufficient cup holders in the rear arm rest not to mention you can add a tablet holder and sync it with the car’s onboard system.

Kinja'd!!!

While there isn’t a lot of space in the glove box the space in the centre console is well arranged in that there is plenty of space for 16 CD cases.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

lift up the flap to the left and there is sufficient space down the side to hold a sizeable tablet computer.

Kinja'd!!!

The size of the car truly surprises in that many cars prioritise rear seat space or boot space over the other.

Kinja'd!!!

Here we have limousine like rear seat space and almost van like boot space.

Kinja'd!!!

All in all a Supe... fantastic car. Well priced and specced and makes other far more expensive cars leave you wondering just where the money went on them.

Though the SE L Exec comes with leather interior as standard it does have the interior LED package (£195) which may explain some of the £1,350.

Rear seat legroom is…Superb, aha (it’s probably getting old now). There’s plenty of knee and head room, between the front seats sits an LCD clock that also shows the outside temperature .

The lack of actual rear seat climate control and heated seats is a bit of a shame, especially when the whole car exudes a limousine like quality.

The LCD clock shows the time and the and current interior temp setting if the air con is on, if not it shows the time.

The rear seat climate control and heated seating is a £200 option, which has three seat temperatures for each of the rear seat passengers. This option is for both front and rear heated seats the other being front seat only heated seats. We went for front heated seats and heated windscreen which at the time was an option though not sure now.

Hmm thats strange, the leather was definitely down as a cost option on the spec sheet we had. Maybe the spec has changed?

it had stop/start so as i was sitting at an intersection , i put my foot down then it’d take a second before you start moving . gave me the shits

the cruise control is one of the distance ones. the odd car on the freeway cut in too sharp setting it off.

The leather has always been standard, it is optional further down the spec list (£1,350 on the SE and £200 on the SE Technology (formerly the SE Business)). The only difference has been the beige leather deletion, back in October 2015, the beige was deleted for the SE L Exec and only available for the L&K as there was supplier issues for the beige. We had selected beige when we ordered in the November as we were told initially it would come back in stock for our 1st of March 2016 delivery, but were told in the December it wouldn’t be introduced to the SE L Exec at all unless we could either go with black leather or if we wanted to pay extra for the ventilated leather seats.

We opted for black leather, which we’re very happy with.

No worries. We’ve had our Piglet since the 2nd of March 2016 and she’s never let us down. The lack of physical handbrake took a week to get used to and the screen on the radio can experience some ‘lag’ on cold days till it’s warmed up (about five to seven minutes) a little.

On the manual gearbox it’s not that noticeable as the engine cuts back in when you push down on the clutch and then put it in gear. I can’t speak for the DSG as I’ve never driven an automatic gearbox. You can disengage stop/start but it has to be done each time the ignition is started of or via VCDS or Maxidot to permanently disengage the function.
