I’ll tell you exactly what happened. some 16-year-old idiot drove that truck, and thought it was neat that he could stop with one wheel on a slippery surface, hit the gas, and when the wheel with no traction eventually grabbed dry pavement it’d do a neat 1.5 second burnout.
that puts an enormous amount of stress on the spider gears and will break them in short order. I knew of a number of jackwagons in high school who did that to their (or their parents’) cars. Especially in the weak-ass 7.25-7.5" gear axles common in cars of the day.
