Great LaFayette’s Ghost! SIMCA bought Ford of France in 1954. Chrysler bought SIMCA and Rootes in the ‘60s to form Chrysler Europe. PSA bought Chrysler Europe in 1978. Now PSA has bought Opel/Vauxhall from GM. Collect them all!

Now there is one company to rule them all. PSA.

Haven’t Opel/Vauxhual been designing every good GM car for last 5 years?

the new Cruze, the Buick Enclave, and and the SS were all Vauxhalls long before they were ever Chevys.

Most Buicks for that matter are just rebadged Vauxhall products

The Enclave is a Traverse, nothing to do with Vauxhall and the SS was a Holden. Only the Verano, Regal, Cascada and Encore (Could also be a GM Korea product) are Vauxhall based.

The Enclave shares a platform with what Opel?

The Cruze may share a platform with the Astra, but it was designed and engineered in the US. Same with the Malibu, LaCrosse, all the Cadillacs, the trucks, SUVs, Corvette, Camaro, Volt, Bolt, etc.

The SS was a Holden first.

I just love how any car that shares a platform with Opel is an Opel and therefore no one in America must have touched the project, but no one holds the Euro Focus/US Focus to the same standard because Ford uses the same brand everywhere.

No, if Opel was the foundation of all of GM’s good products, GM wouldn’t be selling them.

What in the hell do they think they’re going to accomplish with this?

Not really.

Cruze - Daewoo Lacetti, small car development (Delta) was passed on to GM Korea. In fact Opel started rebadging the Spark as their Opel Karl.

Enclave - As Probenja   mentioned it’s actually started as a Buick. Centieme concept, first vehicle on Lambda.

SS - Holden Commodore, unless you go WAY back THEN it started its life as the Opel Commodore/Omega. But by VE/VF (SS is a VF), it was redesigned ground up by Holen.

As for current Buicks, LaCrosse is a rebodied Impala/XTS.

Commodore did start off as an Opel, but by the generation before the SS, it was redesigned ground up by Holden (the entire Zeta platform).

And the Cruze actually started its life as the Daewoo Lacetti Premier (that’s where Chevy got the Premier trim as well).

The current SS is based on no Opel.

The current Cruze is based on no Daewoo.

Like I said before, two sick patients don’t make a healthy corporation. I don’t really think buying market share by taking over a competitor is that easy. Buyers still have negative sentiments towards French cars (from a German perspective). Selling cars and turning a profit has become tougher in Europe so the move to sell Opel is probably the only right decision, famboyism aside.

That being said, good luck selling any cars in Europe now, GM. Nobody will buy Chevrolets nor Cadillacs. Whoever had the idea of selling Chevrolets and Opels/Vauxhalls alongside should get their ass kicked.

I think GM is pretty much over the idea of selling in Europe. It’s an expensive market that isn’t growing.

When you’ve got 0% market share (GM without Opel/Vauxhall) the only way is up. But I doubt they’ll ever get 1% in Europe now.
