The good news is that it looked pretty damn good. Also, if you’re in the North Fulton area, I recommend German Car Repair , I’ve heard good things about them and they certainly seem like they deliver.

Just like My Mercedes and Bimmer place in Forsyth County not open on Saturday, that sucks.

I had an oil analysis done last time I changed the oil in the crown vic (from Blackstone though, not sure where yours is from) - it came back much better than I expected other than an absurd amount of aluminum, which is either the timing set eating itself or the pistons/bearings.

Mine wasn’t from blackstone, it’s from where ever this this shops sends theres, but based on the cars they had in the lot, I’m pretty sure I trust them.

My Mercedes and Bimmer Place if I found a good BMW mechanic who was open on Saturday I would take it there.

Oh, I see “My Mercedes and Bimmer place” is the name, I’ve driven past that on 400 before, no wonder the name sounded familiar.

They do it onsite? That’s cool

That or they send it off and get it back same day. I brought it to them at 8:30 and got a call saying it was ready, with oil analysis at 1:20. Also I was talking to a guy there and apparently they changed up the rod bearings in late 2010 so our cars should be fine. Mine is an October 2010 build date. Have you had the analysis done?

No, I was going to do one next change, but there was a guy on bimmerpost that got a perfect blackstone report right before his went out.

What year was his? I looked into it and really does seem to be like the early E9X cars i.e. 2008-2009s. Who knows, I had both my TPAs go out under 36k miles.

I haven’t followed it that closely in the last couple of months. But at one time the concensus was it didn’t matter what year it was, and was all over the map. There were 2008 models that have made it into the 200k+ miles club without failures, guys who tracked with over 100k on original bearings, and other guys who babied their cars that had the beatings fail before 50k miles. All different years, mileages, and driving habits. I’ll take my chances to 75k miles, and then probably change them as preventive maintenance.

Congrats on the good oil report!

Thanks for the recs guys ... seen both those places and wondered how they are. Been looking for a good place.

Do you ever do your own changes (or is the S65 one of the engines you need a GT-1 computer to change the oil)?

From what I could find online, it’s either hit or miss with the early ones and seems a lot less common with the latter ones. most of what I could find online seems like the earlier cars were a lot loose to experience failure. While the oil report isn’t 100% a guarantee, it should be indictive of the engine condition.

Haven’t changed my own oil, it’s worth the extra money to get a professional to change my oil.
