We Need to Appreciate the Gap in P(-)RND

For years I have taken that seemingly silly gap between park and reverse for granted. We all did, really. The problem wasn’t the loss of PRND, it was forgetting the mechanical gap between P()RND. Not every hole needs to be filled but all need to be attended to.

Automatic shifters fell apart because that space went away with the linkage and now a “parked” car is as dangerous as a moving one. And I’ll say this, moving Park to a button completely separate from the rest of the shifter is just as bad as moving the order around. But changing the order, divorcing park, AND moving the gap to R()N’P’D/S is some seriously messed up shift! I don’t care if people haven’t had issues, you get schwifty on your own time, don’t bring that mess in here.

We should stage a protest by buying manuals.
