Do any Oppos use a universal/standalone bluetooth hands free dealy? Or even a semi-integrated bluetooth hands free dealy?

TIL there are a bunch of crappy pictures of corvettes on the internet. Here’s a 993 Turbo S instead.

My mom wants to be able to safely accept calls in her C5. Unfortunately the car has the bose stereo, which limits most aftermarket plug&play applications. In addition the C5 is not a fun car to do stereo work to, I spent almost 3 hours just hard wiring a sat radio in one!

There are a million and one options on Amazon, but most of them require at least an aux input which isn’t an option unless we were to change out the entire stereo.

This is the one I’m leaning toward.

This is probably going to turn out to be a useless birthday gift as the car is already running a catback/xpipe, and her gift from my father is a set of headers. There was another C5 in the family years ago with a similar exhaust setup and it was comically loud, but this is my only gift idea.

Happy Friday!

I do. Belkin CarAudio Connect in the Solstice, SoundBot SB360 in the F30. Both hook up to the AUX and USB power. Solstice I have to manually power it on and off, but F30 powers on with the car’s USB port.

I use both with Drivemode, for gesture-based navigation of the functions.

I used to use a Parrot one in my Mazda 3 which plugged in between the HU and speakers\ Bose amp (required a special adapter harness due to having the Bose system). It worked incredibly well, had it’s own little display that can be stuck just about anywhere, the controller for it was wireless and came with a strap so it could be attached to the steering wheel. It also enabled bluetooth music streaming and usb streaming as well, had voice dialing etc.

I have an old Sony Ericsson visor mount one that’s likely about 15 years old. Not sure if they still sell any but it worked well. I haven’t used it in about 6-7 years. It was rechargeable, could be swapped from car to car, great if traveling and getting rentals. Had 30 day standby and fantastic talk times too. There are a lot by Parrot but most of those have to be hardwired.

I actually have one of those hard wired FM transmitters from my days as an installer! I also have relays/switches, the wiring is the easy part. The part that I’m trying to avoid is taking the radio out. It’s a huge pain, and Chevy interiors aren’t any good when their new, let alone after being ripped out.

Yea that’s a great setup, adding the aux input is the biggest pain with the C5.

I missed the part where there’s still no Aux.

But since you already added the satellite radio, isn’t it in the same proximity and you can tap into that? I know some third party solutions just do precisely that.

I installed the the sat radio in her previous C5, and without a hard wire FM transmitter or AUX. It took me 3 hours just to run the antenna and hardwire 12v switched.

She had double knee replacement and couldn’t drive a manual for a while, so she traded the vette for a flappy paddle convertible cooper S. Now that she’s recovered she daily’s a manual/hardtop cooper S and rolls the vette when it’s nice.

I bought the one that I linked to and well see how it goes. If it sucks I will do whats needed to wire in the aux input, providing she lets me take it for a spin.

I use a Grom Audio bluetooth adapter. It plugs into where my CD changer used to (and replaces it, obvs). The car thinks it’s still talking to the changer so I get full integration. Track names appear on my head unit screen. I can change the song on my music app with my steering wheel buttons. If I push the “talk” button on my steering wheel it even opens the voice command app on the phone so I can do handsfree calling or texting!

All in all it was around $180 for both the unit and the separate digital signal adapter needed for my sound system. You should check and see if they make a kit for the C5.
