It’s the followup to the groundbreaking Lavalantula!

For those who forgot what happened in the first one, lava spewing tarantulas (get it? ha!) took over LA and burned everything, until some random guy single-handedly saved the day.

For the second one, everybody comes back and does pretty much the same thing, except it starts in FL instead of LA.

Ratings for things that are important for a movie of this style:

Plot Originality - 1/10

- It’s basically the same exact plot as the first one, in a different city.

Gratuitous Unnecessary Gravelling Batman Voice - 10/10

- If you’re into this, you’re in luck. There’s a lot.

CGI - 4/10

- Better than expected, but still not great by modern standards

One liners - 6/10

- Quantity is very high. Quality is questionable.

Spoofing other movie scenes by making exact replicas but inserting lavalantulas - 7/10

- There were quite a few, I lol’d several times.

The inevitable scene where somebody says the name of the movie - 10/10

- It’s amazing.

Threats to ignore the hero’s plan and just nuke Florida - 2/10

- I never actually thought they were gonna nuke it.

Romance - 1/10

- There was mild hand-holding, but nobody made out while under duress in the middle or at the end before the credits rolled.

Stereotyping - 10/10

- I’m so offended that I lol’d. You’ll notice the key scenes it if you watch.

Overall Entertainment Value - 8/10

- It’s only an hour and twenty minutes long. Perfect for mindless entertainment after a long day.

Total Score - 59/100

Verdict: Watch it if you’re bored or otherwise need to decompress from a stressful day. Do not watch if you have any expectations other than being mildly entertained.

I watched the first one over the summer with my girlfriend. She’s a biology major and currently in vet school. She was so mad about the lavalantulas and their inaccurate characteristics that I couldn’t stop laughing. I’ll be sure to tell her there’s a second one.
