Kinja'd!!!

People actually bought the prius prime? It’s just as ugly in person. And yes, those two reflector things to the side are also the blinkers.

Yet still better looking than the Prius-prius, which I think is easily one of the ugliest modern cars ever.

Unexpected not-part-of-taillight blinkers drive me bonkers.

All of these taillights have room for blinkers!

The US DOT regulations for turn signal height say they must be mounted “on the rear, at the same height, symmetrically about the vertical centerline, as far apart as practicable.”

I’m not sure how any of these bumper-mounted turn signals are considered at the vertical centerline of the car, but ok...

Yep, too much going on in too small of an area.

It caught me so off guard, I was shocked. Also the cadillac escalade does the exact same thing but only on the front bumber, which confused me in the rearview a few times.

surprisingly, I’ve seen a ton of these in the long island, ny region. I would think that a Plug-in outweighs the advantages of having a non plug-in prius

See, I read that symmetrically about the vertical centerline bit to mean the same horizontal distance from the center of the car.

If you took the taillights from the regular Prius and the front end of the Prime you’d end up with a decent looking car.

I saw a white one this morning on my commute down i80. Every time I see a new Prius I think “wow, someone wasn’t born with taste.”. Each time I see a Prius Prime I think “wow, someone wasn’t born with taste OR EYES”.

Well, depends on what you consider “the advantages”.

You lose cargo space (and Toyota stupidly packaged the back end of that car), and you gain about 285-325 pounds (almost all in the back) depending on which trim level you’re comparing. You also lose the middle back seat. And, there’s the styling changes (I personally prefer the Liftback styling).

However, you get 133 MPGe combined in electric mode, for 25 miles. You then get better MPG than the standard Prius - 54 combined, instead of 52, I’d guess that the larger battery allows the engine to shut down more often on the highway (which is where most of the benefit comes from).

You also get higher equipment levels - higher-spec infotainment (11.6" instead of the normal 6-7"), heated steering wheel, and remote climate control (a common feature on BEVs and PHEVs, because they can run the climate control off of the charger, and not use any electric range to do it) are Prime-only features/options.

Edit: Oh, and purchase price on the Prime ends up cheaper than the Liftback, too, because of a $4502 Federal tax credit, and any state tax credits and incentives. In California, the things get HOV access, even, which means that some may well be bought purely for an HOV sticker, and never plugged in.

“symmetrically about the vertical centerline” ...So, in other words, left-right symmetry.

well generally speaking about the electric vehicle part, where one can charge it, instead of not being able to charge it “on demand” on a regular prius
