This and

Kinja'd!!!

This go into production? I thought the 427 and Interceptor were two of the most badass things I had ever seen when I was a kid. Instead the only thing we got from them were the Gillette Mach3 grills across the Ford lineup.

Because americans don’t want large RWD V8 sedans anymore. They want large wheelbase FWD sedans that don’t break 25 MPG. Chrysler gets away with it because that is their shtick. Everywhere else V8 + RWD - Luxury badge = poor sales in the US, and Ford knew it, which is why they did not build those cars.

I went to the ‘08 CIAS primarily to see the ZR1. At that point I was a straight-up fanboy with no rhyme or reason, zero informed opinions and a specific hatred of Fords. I wanted the Interceptor, right then. Period. Loved it. Loved the whole idea of it.

Because no return on investment yo. Ford does not have a unibody rwd platform other than the Mustang.

the modern 300c came out just after those concepts, which put ford behind the styling 8ball. plus, crossovers.

True. But they had the chance too. The 427 debuted 2 years before the Chrysler 300, and the Interceptor 2 years after the 300. They had the chance but as usual, their main focus is their cash cow F Series.

We all wanted it. Its what a next gen Crown Vic or the 500 should have been.

Yea but if they wanted too they could have done some reworking to the DEW 98 platform. Instead that was wasted on the joke Thunderbird and forgotten LS.

Like I mentioned to the other guy, the 427 actually came out 2 years before the 300. So there was time.

Well, focusing of a cash cow is usually pretty safe business... as long as you keep other stuff cooking in case of a market shift.

Because Ford was hitting the skids financially at about that time. They were peering down into the abyss of bankruptcy just one month prior to unveiling the Interceptor concept (Don LeClair secured that famous $25 billion in loans in December 2006, the Interceptor was unveiled January 2007.) Plus they had just gone through massive layoffs a year prior. There was no money and not enough people do to something risky like the Interceptor.

as for the 427, as far as I know that was only ever a styling/design concept like the Evos, not a potential real product.

First gen Fusion and the current Taurus wear and wore production elements of those vehicles..

You must’ve missed the part where I mentioned that. I would’ve preferred the vehicles themselves instead of production elements.

The Mustang is IRS now, and Ford is pretty good at upsizing a platform to make a larger vehicle (See: any crossover currently in production).

Add some inches to length, add a bit of width, give it 4 acutal seats, and bingo.

Yeah, they could have become the new Taurus.
