The tailgate handle was the first thing my dad fixed when we got the 04 z71.

My dad’s had the bezel until a few months ago when one of the plastic connectors behind it that hold the rods that actuate the tailgate latches to the handle broke and I tried to be nice and fix it... Damn plastic clips broke and it hasn’t had one since.

DRLs, now that’s another story.

I did have to replace the handle mechanism once a few years ago. That’s when I added the lock (it’s a GM accessory), which I only use if there’s something valuable back there, or if I park in a shady area.

Double stick tape should fix the bezel good enough :)

Thought about that, but a new one is like $10 on the internet.

Or just leave it off because you most definitely notice the damage from 2" sized hail stones before the missing bezel.

According to my trusty local indie mechanic who does the things I don’t want to deal with, they are still in good shape. I’ll probably get them changed out in the next year or two as preventitive maintenance.

My left side rocker panel is starting to pop some rust, I’m not too happy about that.

I’ve seen so many with one DRL that I thought that’s how they came frm the factory.

They practically did! My dad had a 2000 Silverado that burned out a DRL within a couple months.

It looks like you have a lockable tailgate. How many GMT800's had those? Your DRL’s should be sent to a lab for analysis.

The tailgate lock is a GM accessory I added a few years ago when the handle mechanism itself broke. As far as I know, no GMT-800 pickup left the factory with a tailgate lock, with the possible exception of the Avalanche, I think those had locks.

The lock add-on had been discontinued already when Inboight it, but at that time it was still easy to find.

The locking bezels weren’t the ones people broke when changing out the green and red rod tabs. Now for your DLRs, that is just witchcraft.

My bezel isn’t a locking one, that’s a now discontinued GM accessory I added on a few years later when I had to change the green and red tabs.

But yes, the DLRs are most certainly witchcraft.
