Definitely not Cayman luxury, but I’m assuming thats the point. Its a sports car, not a grand tourer. Simple/clean design inside and out.

This seems to be the way things are going, the Clio RS only comes with a flappy paddle box these days, chances are the new Megan RS will be the same, so it makes sense this will go that way as well.

TBH I’m not bothered, my DD has a DSG now (first ever non-manual car I have had) and our manual Citroen DS4 is getting replaced in a few weeks with a BMW i3 (which doesn’t even have a gearbox). I am not missing driving a manual.

And yes the Alpine A110 looks awesome, am hoping they have the usual Renault rock falling of a cliff like depreciation so I can pick one a year old up for half it’s original price.

I’m one of those who doesn’t believe in buying new (waste of money), so my opinion might be moot. Having said that, I reaaally like this car and I do see myself in it. However, it would need a manual. I would not buy it for traffic jams or cutting 0.1 seconds from shifts while I would be buying it for driving fun, so manual it would have to be.

Damn, that quilted leather, it looks so great. It’s just the right balance between retro and modern.

Too bad about the manual though, from what I heard it uses an enlarged version(1.8 instead of 1.6) of the Clio RS engine, including the same dual clutch gearbox. So they probably chose to use parts available to keep costs down, instead of developing new parts. And it’s main rival (in my opinion), the Alfa 4C also doesn’t come with a manual, so there is that. Sadly it makes more sense from a business point of view than it does for us enthusiasts.

Do it. Buy it for all us on the other side of the Atlantic.

Only if they get cheap enough while still under Renault warranty!

Same way old MR2s were iirc, take a FWD drive train and stick it in the middle. With manuals having such a low take rate, I don’t blame the manufacturers.

I’d still want a used 4C someday. I’d like it more with a manual, same with the LC500. But since I’m not buying either new, I cant really complain.

I am disappointed with this car,

1. There are no air intakes on top of the rear fenders

2. No manual transmission

3. Mid-engined not rear-engined

4. Not coming to the U.S, but 1 and 2 and not winnig the lotto make this a moot point

Get ready to import one to the US in 2042!

But hey, now whenever our government wants to make a new regulation, they have to delete two other ones. How do we get the 25 year import ban on that list???

Like that interior. Lot of the ones I saw at are local show were nice, but generic.

Manuals don’t have low take in Europe, which will be its prime market I presume.

Well either way, if the car they took the drivetrain from didn’t have a manual the point/ease of manufacturing still remains.

I’ve never driven a rear engined car, but I dont really see how it would be any better than MR.

The A106 through A610 were all rear engined, so the new car would be the first non-rear-engined Alpine. The fact they went retro makes it really disappointing that it is not rear engined.

MR and FMR are the ideal engine placements. I was thinking realistically they could put the centerline of the engine behind the centerline of rear wheels and call it RR, but be functionally very close to MR.

The guy who advocated blatant protectionism of the American auto industry in the form of large tariffs relaxing a vehicle import ban? If anything he’ll extend it.

Rear-engine scares people. Buddy of mine who used to work in marketing at Renault told me people were wary of the new Twingo because of that, even though the traction control is super strict. Plus Renault/Alpine have lost all knowledge of how to make a rear-engined car handle well, unlike Porsche.
