Kinja'd!!!

A gentleman should not be out in the snow. He has a crew with clearing devices for that.

They can clear the way for the maid’s car, too.

Voyage also had a coupe sibling called Solitaire. I’m still angry at Cadillac as they didn’t make these, but ruined their brand with Escalades.

Hi 1991 Caprice.

If you were trying to do a reproduction of this, you *would* be starting with a Caprice, no question. Some extra silliness up front, though:

“Ruined.”

The Escalade is pretty much the only thing keeping Cadillac from going under.

It’s cool, they made up for it by sending a notification when a spam bot started following me. She seems keen enough.

They could have focused into making more interesting cars and wander to SUV and pickup markets. GM had plenty of brands to use. It didn’t have to be a Cadillac Escalade.

Many manufacturers have gone to SUV route, but not all.

They were styling exercises, not prototypes. Basically, the way GM treated concept cars in the 1950s and ‘60s - to set the stylistic tone for production models to follow and introduce a few new design details, but not to directly preview any actual production car. The idea of concept cars eventually seeing production more or less as designed is a fairly recent innovation.

The 1993 Fleetwood did incorporate some Voyage/Solitaire inspiration, if you sort of squint a little.

It’s not an example of trying to wander into SUV and pickup markets, it’s Cadillac trying to stay relevant in one of their most troubling times. Because of the Range Rover, LX450, ML, etc, luxury SUVs were the hot thing of the late 90s, and Cadillac needed that market. Without it, they would have been dead long ago.
