It only took me about 3-3.5 hours, but I’m also very mechanically familiar with the car. The worst part by far was dealing with the factory springy hose clamps.

I think I’ve replaced almost all of the cooling system components on my MR2 by now except for the hard lines. Heater core replacement was a nightmare...
I just cut those stupid spring clamps and replace them with regular hose clamps.

oh no way! My wife’s xterra blew some brittle plastic bit that connects three hoses between the heater, block, and radiator in a mall parking lot last summer. Took me a solid hour of cursing sweating and bleeding with the old clamps and a combination of needle nose, vice grips, and channel locks to get them off and back on again. If I had only known!

Yup, they are the best thing for the hose clamps. You lock it on there, and you can move the clamp any way you need while still locked. There are also conventional looking pliers that act the same way, but sometimes you can’t get those into the tighter spaces.
They are a godsend when you need them.

They’re a pain to work with, but they are superior to standard worm gear hose clamps because they can flex with temperature changes. It provides a better seal and makes the hose last longer.
