You what’s worse? The engineering students that wear “trust me I’m an engineer”, you’re an engineer after you get that diploma stating you’re ABET certified. Further more unless you passed the PE exam, you cannot sign off engineering plans.

I always tell people that they can trust me because I’ve made it his far in accounting. It’s not fun.

I tell people I’m not smart even though I’m in a engineering program. I’m lucky I’ve gotten this far.

I feel the same way sometimes. I’m smart but it becomes relative when you’re in accounting. Part of it is I don’t try like some of these kids do. My social life keeps me sane.

Even though I’ve graduated, have work experience, and passed the FE, I’m still very much a dumbass and I surprise myself every day with how much of a dumbass I can be.

I could get that for one of the project managers at my work.

He started shagging an office gal, then she got a divorce, and they got married and now a newborn.

Face palm.

I guess they are happy now though.

Oh dear. Doesn’t it strike you as a little bit sad that there are people out there who identify strongly enough as ‘An Accountant’ that they’re willing to buy a shirt proclaiming it.

I mean, I’m sure accounting has a lot more to it than I know about, but it doesn’t seem like something you’d proudly proclaim to the world. It’s sort of like saying ‘the most interesting thing about me is that I’m an accountant!’...

Counsellor: Well chartered accountancy is rather exciting isn’t it?

Anchovy: Exciting? No it’s not. It’s dull. Dull. Dull. My God it’s dull, it’s so desperately dull and tedious and stuffy and boring and des-per-ate-ly DULL.

Counsellor: Well, er, yes Mr Anchovy, but you see your report here says that you are an extremely dull person. You see, our experts describe you as an appallingly dull fellow, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressibly drab and awful. And whereas in most professions these would be considerable drawbacks, in chartered accountancy they are a positive boon.

I’ve been rewatching quite a lot of Python lately. :)

Wish I had pictures of what I was working on last night to show you, mate - got the welding done on the rear quarters of the Ranchero, so now have to do quite a bit of grinding and beating to make it all straight, but it’s in place. Once I’ve got that all sorted, I want to try out me brand new body soldering kit - melting tin and zinc slop into all the cracks and working it with a maple paddle.

Cool! It’d be great to see it all together :) definitely grab some pictures

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at body solder. I get the impression it’s probably one of those old-school skills like english wheeling that I’d absolutely love to be able to do competently :)

Let me know how it goes!

Got the weld lines for the lower quarters cleaned up, lower quarters straightened, quite a bit done last night. Got out most of one of the two dents that showed up in flex during install, but I’ve got one more to go that’s not quite straight, and two small areas that got distorted behind the doors I’ve got to drive out. Slowly beginning to look correct...

I’d show you, but my work computer doesn’t seem to want to recognize my phone as a drive.

No body solder yet, but here are two pictures:

After taking this, I managed to get that seam just slightly more straight, but this was 80% of the way there from where I started. Not too bad for having to hand form all this, I don’t think. The area below the seam that’s sanded out is where I worked out (most of) a dent - the other side has a slightly straighter seam line, but still has an unconquered dent...

Thought I’d replied to this!

That’s looking kickass dude :) must be a bugger welding along that double-curved panel without it warping wildly so you’ve done a great job :)

Extra impressed that it’s all hand formed patches. I’ve not been brave enough to try that on an exterior panel beyond little squares to patch up rust holes...

I’ve still got to use a spot welder to stick it along the bottom and over the arch - for which it’ll be a good idea to pull the wheels. Funny how I did all of this without... At any rate, once I’ve got it spotted I have some more bumping out to do, and then I have to see which way it goes under heat. The body solder applies when it’s hot enough that there may be more warps to work on or anneal out of it - and that’s something I didn’t know until I watched my instructional DVD.

I’d not have formed the new panels if there were other options, but I had to rebuild the inner fender entirely, and took the opportunity to change the line to fit the new bumper. No rear quarters available for Ranchero or wagon, and while the bit only in front of the wheel’s available, for something like $200 a side for a bit of curved metal, what’s the point?

In re: piecing things together with little bits, I did that on the inner fender, but decided I needed to make the outside as seamless as possible. Which I then made a hash of by having my intended metal cut too short. I seamed another piece on to make it reach far enough, then annealed through the splice with a torch... without heating the whole piece evenly, and creating an “oil-can”, on both sides. That’s the primary reason I’ve got rubbish to deal with now when it’s on the car - I’m an idiot.

At any rate, the instructional DVD is all very well, but for most of the process Gene Winfield is more informative:
