Is Ferrari No Longer Building Sportscars?

I love grand touring cars! Heck, I’m thrilled with the switch to being more like an Italian Aston Martin rather than an Italian Porsche. But that said, I can’t believe they just gave up their spot to McLaren without ANY fight at all! Now don’t get me wrong, Ferrari is currently making the most track capable GT cars on the planet! But Porsche and McLaren are still nailing the most streetable sportscars in the world. That pretty much means there is no comparison test Ferrari will ever win because sportscars are built for comparisons. Yes they are!

All I’m saying is that perhaps Ferrari should consider getting rid of the California T since it’s just a badge holder and put in some effort in making a great volume product that matches the rest of the brand. I think they could honestly get away with using their 2.9L V6 from the Quadrifoglios but pushed to 600 hp and pretty much aim to build a real 458 successor. Maybe they can give it some random name like...hmmm, the Ferrari 296 Dino? Nah, that doesn’t really speak to their heritage. GTC4Lusso is much better!

By the way, I just realized that the “C” in “GTC4" doesn’t mean anything. They wanted to use GT because it’s a grand tourer. They wanted the 4 because the AWD and 4-wheel steering are kind of a big deal. Lusso just means luxury which is as redundant as a Charger R/T Road and Track. You can’t call it “GT4" since that’s a paycheck it will never cash (though a track-focused shooting brake would be the coolest thing ever). Can’t use “GTB” even though it makes perfect sense here because it doesn’t relate to the 488 GTB at all. Thus you toss in a C and let marketing do the rest.

At this point Ferrari might as well take the GTC4, add 1,000 lbs, a lift, and call it the GTC4x4 “Universale.” The Continental GT and Bentayga won’t know what’s going on, just like the rest of us!

*Note that I’m liking Ferrari more and more as I watch them shift towards Aston Martin comparisons rather than Lamborghini.

All they have to do now is to start putting form in a slightly higher regard than function, because from Ferrari’s current line, the only cars I dare to call beautiful are the GTC4 and the California T (which should’ve been a Maserati by the way).

The 488 and the 812 may be some of the most advanced aerodynamic wise production cars on the market, but damn if they aren’t fugly

Meh. Why any cares so much for the cult of the prancing horse is beyond me.

McLaren and Keonigsegg have my attention for the types of cars Ferrari used to build.

McLaren? out of curiousity, what about McLaren reminds you of Ferrari?

I find Pagani and Koenigsegg to represent that. Pagani represents the passion, while Koenigsegg represents the batshit.
