We as a society have long settled the nazi question. It really is okay to punch nazis. Whether it’s okay to punch nazis has become a truism like “the sky is blue” where if a child asks you why it is, you could give a detailed scientific answer, but it’s also acceptable to just say “because it is.”

When they start runnning the concentration camps, it’s too late unfortuantely. Nazis get punched, and that’s actually pretty nice of a treatment.
Following that logic, trying to persuade people to go fight with ISIS in Syria should be protected also. Also, hate speech incitating violence (“Fighting words”, which Nazis use constantly) is not protected by the 1st amendment.

At what precise point does someones political position become divergent enough from your own to justify violence against them? If his point is so vile, and yours so righteous, then why result to such barbaric tactics to further your views?

This is what I’m not getting about a lot of these responses. It isn’t about being a hyperbolic asshole and saying something stupid like “Trump supporters are nazis trolololo.” We’re talking about actual genuine nazis like Spencer and people who are vandalizing Jewish cemeteries and calling in weekly bomb threats to synagogues and JCCs. It isn’t about a difference in opinion. This has been settled for over 80 years. Nazis don’t get an opinion, they don’t get a voice, it isn’t an issue that is open to debate, because it isn’t an issue at all. There are few, if any, certainties as certain as nazis=bad. It’s a fundamental part of human civilization.

I heard about that too. Additionally, synagogues and JCCs across the country have been getting weekly bomb threats, a local synagogue in Philadelphia has had bricks thrown through its windows multiple times, and there are a bunch of stories about mezuzot on people’s doors being vandalized. This shit is reprehensible.

Human Rights is absolutely politics, you are literally incapable if having any rights at all in a non political enviroment (a “State of Nature”, as Hobbes would say). And I don’t see how punching a Neo-Nazi defends Jewish rights.
I know it is difficult to be entirely objective about such things, but freedom of speech applies to everyone equally, no matter what that speech is.
Even the ALCU defends Nazi freedom of speech and peaceful assembly in the United States.
Punching someone for what they say isn’t a righteous act, it’s assault.

Actions and words are very separate things. This guy is violating no law, he is exercising his free speech, and he should be allowed to do so however despicable that speech is.
And the “real live thing” got destroyed in 1945. The Neo Nazi movement is an irrelevant nuisance. They have no army, no political power, and will fade away into nothing simply by being ignored.
