Kinja'd!!!

I realized a small life goal today when I got to drive my friend’s 4x4 mini-truck/kei-truck. 3 cylinder NA, folding bed goodness. He lives/works at a neighboring ranch that uses this in the winter months. It is not fast (my 60 lb. dog ran us down when it was floored on a dirt road) but it is so cool to drive. I could see it being a beast of a utility vehicle, low weight short wheelbase stick shift with transfer case 4x4, especially for only $3,000 or $4,000.

Once I own property I’m totally getting one.

One of these would be perfect for me if they could be registered and road legal. How small is the cab? I 6'4 so I may not even fit in one.

I love this. I wish I had the space that would let me rock either a harem of those, or the Daihatsu Mira RV4 that is kicking around the local Kijiji.

Even though I daily an EG Civic I do have bare minimum standards for not getting killed in traffic.

I’m 6'2" and I fit fine, once I got past the steering wheel. The upright shape of the cab is what makes it work. I could work the pedals fine, even with big square boots on.

I thought you could register them in some places, but I may be mistaken about that. It would be fine around town, just not too fast or with too much traffic.

Move to Canada, any 15 years old or older CAN be registered and road Legal!

....or import an older one 25 years old or older to the US and you SHOULD be able to register and legally drive it on the roads?

Some places have an explicit mini-truck classification, but they’re forbidden from access to interstates and US routes, due to how tax money is allocated for those (they’re not federally compliant, so they can’t use federally-paid-for roads).

Alternately, if it’s over 25 years old, anything goes.

Yeah I’d just want to cruise around my small town and some rUral areas. It makes complete sense not to let them on the highways.
