This might be replacing the S600 in the near future.

Might I add: The roof looks rather small compared to the body of the car, proportionally speaking. Sort of like above the belt-line is a 1:1.25 scale of the rest of the car below the belt-line. Styling is not my favorite, but if you enjoy it, I wish you all the best in your endeavors!

Wow, the proportions of a SWB LS460 are totally off. That roof line looks...off...without the length in the rear doors. I mean, it’s not a proportional extreme like a LWB X308 Jaguar XJ8L or a SWB E38, but it still doesn’t look quite right. Also, the older 4 spoke steering wheel was sooooooo much better.

You’re saying those are BAD things?

The US market has been doing similar design cues with regards to the roof for DECADES....

In my opinion the look works for it’s intended audience. I personally like the look myself. Unfortunately I’m approaching the age of the intended audience faster than I’d like. :(

Cannot condone. But whatever makes you happy I guess. I find it sad, but understandable. Have you considered something like 2010ish S550? Sans ABC, of course.

I think it looks great. Most cars have roofs that are too big for them (fuck wagons, fite me). Gives it almost a four-door-coupé look.

It’s actually between this and a 2012 S550 right now. I really don’t want to sell the S600, but I’m getting tired of not being able to rely on it. I get stressed out whenever I drive it because I’m always wondering if it’s going to shit the bed again. Late run 221 S65s are still in the mix, and I’m not totally sure if I’m even going to sell the S600 yet. I’m just tired of the unreliability.

So I’ve been a little cold towards my SL lately. Been sitting in the garage for most of the winter with less than 100 miles. Usually I make an attempt to get it out more than I have, but time has not been in my favor.

On the bright side, I think having the car sit still for as long as it has may have just maybe gotten more air out of the ADS system, because the light hasn’t come on once. I will need to get a drip pan under it and figure out what’s going on, I suspect there’s a small leak somewhere, but the last time I took it out, the light never came on. Big step in the right direction, because I was getting very close to having the accumulators disconnected and double checked. If the light stays off, I’m going to cancel that one...I don’t want to anger the car, but it’s warming up. Getting close to when I’ll be able to put more miles on it.

Let me go knock on every piece of wood in the house now that I’ve got this in writing.

I completely understand. 12 S550 will have the 278 which is an excellent engine. And I think I’ve only ever replaced two struts on 221's, both early ones. I think you would love it and be surprised by the reliability. But ultimately, you gotta do what makes you happy (and doesn’t bankrupt you!)

What is Benz’s CPO warranty like ? I’m looking at a CPO 2012 S600 right now, but the L/certified warranty looks much better.

I think it coversfrom 1 year up to 3 years and unlimited mileage, depending on your choice of package. I don’t remember off the top of my head, but I’ll get better details and let you know. But as far as what it covers, it’s really quite good and would have covered everything you’ve had issues with on your 220. I’ve seen it go as far as replacing pistons and turbos for oil consumption (not common at all, it was poorly maintained and unloved). It may be possible to get an extended warranty beyond that called an ELW, which is factory backed. I could be wrong on my terms and coverage limitations because that isn’t really something I need to stay on top of (my computer tells me if something is covered or not just by putting in a few pieces of information). But I’ll let you know.

Looks nice. Has very good service history. I was hoping it would be a 279 engine (individual ignition coils and other control system improvements), but it isn’t. Oh well.

Looks like it just ran out of CPO in January. Not sure they can certify it again, but I could be wrong. I’ll find out though. I’ve been away from used cars for a long time now.

Do you know why they can’t get as much power out of the M279s through an ECU tune ? It’s very odd that the older motor is more tune able.

Kinja'd!!! "AMGtech - now with more recalls!" (amgtech)
02/27/2017 at 21:52, STARS: 0

I don’t. I didn’t even know that was an issue. Just a tune on an AMG 279 makes a pretty significant increase. *shrugs*

The AMG versions seem to be different, but the S600 & Maybach can only be tuned up 89 hp compared to 157 hp on a W220 with an M275.

Notice not just the heights of the roofs on the cars pictured, but the size and style of the car. The roof is taller, and the cars are all full-sized. This Lexus is probably 16 feet long at best. The last Lincoln you have pictured extends to at least 19 feet, probably more. They are also boxier and have a longer hood and trunk, making the styling more tolerable.
