Kinja'd!!!

It’s one of the cars I’m considering, but I think they want too much money for it. I did test drive it yesterday, and I liked it. However, after spending half the day at Lexus, I’m going to have to drive a Lexus IS before I buy anything.

honestly, i wouldn’t get another BMW, especially not another 3 series. whats the point? you already have the best one there is. you will start to make excuses as too why you should take the M instead of the normal one.

might as well have some variety to the mix.

How bad is your commute? Is DDing the M3 really that intimidating?

I second Peter Black, why not go for something a bit more different to the M?

I also wouldn’t get another 3 series. I also wouldn’t get the Lexus. Do I have a suggestion, not really. My 335 can’t be driven right now due to a cracked wheel and Apex is screwing me over. So Tesla is the DD. If you don’t need something fancy, get something cheap or an e46.

I think its the fuel cost he doesnt want to deal with. or adding miles to it.

But he’s proposing spending $15,000 to save a little on gas? Unless your commute is over 500 miles a week, that does not really make sense.

CP. I know the miles are low, but this still seems at least $5k overpriced. The vast majority of E9x 328i’s around me are going for under $10k. A friend is trying to sell his 2009 328i auto sedan with 91k right now and had to drop the asking price to $8k to start getting offers. I’d say that one with low miles and the sport package is certainly worth more, but I think $12k is a realistic starting offer and max to haggle up to would be around $14k.

Is your drive with this “lesser” car long?

It really depends on where I choose to live, but right now it’s looking like it’ll be at least 60 miles a day. So probably about 300 a week in commuting to work. A round trip home will be around 550 miles, and I’ve got friends that are spread around the southeast. I’m thinking a conservative estimate would be 17k on the car per year. I just really don’t want to put that many miles on the M3. I also can afford a second car, and liked having second car.

I know people have been saying don’t buy a second BMW cause you’ll make excuses to drive the M3. I was in the office for two weeks because my crew didn’t have a client and for 9/10 days I took the 128i. I drove the M3 once because it was Friday. I was never tempted to take the M3 to the yard when I was there and wasn’t staying in the field.

I’m leaning toward another BMW because I haven’t any other car and been like yes I need this. I drove a C300 4 Matic and didn’t really like it. I drove a FoST and while I can see why people like them, but for some reason I didn’t really want it. It’s also hard to get a feel for a car on just a test drive. The only non-BMW that I’ve driven and been like I want this is a C63 AMG.

As for the argument I’ll drive the M instead, well when I wasn’t in the field and was working in the office or at the yard, I drove my 128i. That’s what I bought it for, and I wasn’t really tempted to take the M3. Days off? Yeah I’m taking the M3, I went 6 days without driving it, I’m enjoying it now.

The ATL BMW market and the South Texas BMW car markets are two different things. It’s a bitch to sell BMWs there, I didn’t get even a single low ball offer on my 128i. It seems there’s a grand or two difference in car prices here and there. That said, yeah it’s way over priced. It seems like it should be around 15k. I basically told them that and they weren’t really interested. They said they were going to end up losing money on it, even if that’s true that’s your problem, not mine. I drove a 2011 E90 sedan with 55k on it and the BMW dealer sold it for almost 14k. They told me someone was coming to buy the car as I was test driving it, and the ad disappeared shortly after my drive so I believe they were telling the truth.

I can’t find anything I’d rather spend my money on. Since I’m not making oil money anymore, I’d like to keep it under 20k.

Be about 60 miles everyday to work and back. I put 3500 miles on a 128i in a month and I didn’t hate it nor did I really wish I had done the trip in my M3.

I also want to be able to drive it 300+ miles straight, which is why an electric car wouldn’t work. Also I can assure you the electric car infrastructure doesn’t really exist in south Georgia.

If you want another E9x get an E9x

There was a time when I passed on a really nice low-miles E34 530i because we already had an E32 750iL even though my SO encouraged getting the 5er. The A6 we ended up with was...competent but meh.

Now it’s clear the E34 would’ve been the right choice and I’d still be DD’ing it today, years later. Dang.

As a BMW guy maybe you’ll be geeking on the subtle differences between your //M and the other E9x, they won’t seem the same... can promise you as someone who’s owned *face reddens* 5 at once, before (if you tell I’ll deny having said this, said what? lol).

Hopefully you’ll get the car you want, and if that is an E9x, well, the uninitiated may just have to remain uninitiated

btw that silver Coupe is CP but it seems you’re onto that

It seems I’m hearing you’d enjoy DD’ing a BMW and yet there are reasons you don’t want to DD the M3

...solution...

a second BMW!

If this is the case, it seems pretty straightfoward, huh?

Just saying.

Seriously, here’s hoping you get the car you want and are tickled with it till the wheels fall off. Or till you’re ready to trade. It does seem you keep coming back around to a Bimmer though.

I wouldn’t mind trying something else, but I can’t find anything that checks all the boxes like a BMW. I want something that I can take a 6 hour trip up to North Carolina, and then enjoy on some mountain roads.

I understand the point that I’ve already got the ultimate E9X, why would I get another one. It’ll be a slower cheaper version of my car, which is exactly why I want it.

I’m going to try to find something else, but I keep coming back to the E9X or a 128i. I’ll be in Savannah for a few days, I’m going to try and find a Lexus to go drive and a C300 in Sport trim.

Safe travels and best wishes

At one time we owned E36 318is and E36 325i; now still own the 325i plus, by the grace of God, also E36 M3...it’s never felt like just wearing the same jeans in a different color or anything...they’re distinct and separate cars (imho anyway)

Just get what you really want (whatever that may be)

PS: That’s ‘cause nothing else checks the same boxes :)
